Fans Fight
Playing an the largest ice sur-
face they've been on this season,
Exeter Mohawks slammed home
10 goals on Wednesday night
to rout the Pt, Edward Mer-
chants 10-3 right in the border
town.
The lop -sided Mohawk victory
was marred by hot-headed fans
after the game who attacked
Exeter players and falls as they
graded
p from the arena,
Development of the fracas
started right :from the opening
whistle whenseveral, what nor-
mally would be minor penalties,
were let go by the officials. The
climax was reached at the 15:10
mark of the final period when
Exeter's 13111 Batten accidentally
clipped one of the Merchant
players on the back of the head
with his stick to cause the play-
er to retire from the game after
losing about a pint of blood.
Inadequate police protection
helped to spur several individ-
ual fist fights outside the arena
for about 30 minutes after the
game, but all the Exeter play-
ers returned safely to their
homes.
In the game itself, the Mo-
hawks wasted little time in start-
ing into their 70 -goal scoring
spree as Bill Merle fired his
first of three goals into the net
at 1:21 of the first period.
