We had a very pleasant chat over the tele -
'„phone a couple of days .ago with J. L. MacDonald of
:.Goderieh. J. L. is the father of BILLY MacDONALD
;who patrolled the right wing boards for EXETER
'MOHAWKS last year in the O.H.A.. SENIOR "B"
• hockey league.
Billy is very well known around these parts
for his scoring prowess on hockey clubs. He came up
through the minor hoc-
key system in GODE-
RICH .and starred with
the SAILORS of that
town on Intermediate
"A" teams for a, couple
of seasons, In his '55-'56
season at the lake port,
William led the SAILOR
machine with 34 goals
and 22 assists for 56
points in 32 games.
While with the Mohawks,
he rolled up 22 goals
with 26 assists to pace
the Exeter scoring de-
partment. Bill has al-
ways been a dangerous
man -around the net with
his good shot and it was
no surprise to many that
he venturedinto higher
company..
MacDONALD had a very rough cussing to
the Old Country when he left lade last August to
don a PAISLEY PIRATE uniform for the '57-'58
season. You may recall that this is the club JOHN
TRENDELL, another ex -Mohawk, played on before
corning to the tribe.
In his last letter home, which was just be-
fore New Years, I3i11 reported that the PIRATES
were holding down second place in the league stand-
ings. News about Bill himself wasn't on the good side,
however, as he hurt his tricky knee and was out for
two weeks. After this rest, he jumped back into
action against a touring RUSSIAN team and late in
the third period of this encounter he aggravated the
old 'injury and this time was shelved for five long
weeks. Incidentally, J. I,. tells us that Paisley downed
the Russians 7-2 on their home ice and 4-3 back in
the SOVIET UNION. According to Will, the team
that toured Canada was definitely NOT RUSSIA'S
BEST, so the Dunnies will have their hands full in
OSLO. The injury jinx picked up by Bill undoubtedly
handicapped his scoring but we were told he is still
netting his share of the goals.
The PAISLEY PIRATE hockey club is now on
a six- to seven -week tour that will take them through
GERMANY, FRANCE and to most of the other
hockey centres on the continent. The tour will wind
up in ENGLAND where the Scottish club will play
an exhibition game against the AMERICAN TEAM
representing the U.S, at the Olympics.
WILLIAM is not expected home much before
the month of June but when he does arrive, he
should have plenty to report about.
DUNNIES TO BE FAMOUS? -Whitby Dunlops
have been tabbed with the slogan "Go Dunnies Go!"
We sincerely hope that they have more luck with it
than the KITCHENER-WATERLOO DUTCHMEN did
when they dragged the "Go Dutchies Go" slogan be-
hind them. After following the records of this DUN-
LOP aggregation in recent exhibition games and
with the players they have been adding to their line-
up over the past months, there's no doubt that it's
an all-out "go -for -broke" deal. "Shoot the works"
may be a better saying. If this club doesn't succeed,
then someone had better start packing the MONT-
REAL CANADIENS' gear.
Coach WREN BLAIR of the tire club had lady
luck pat him on the back when he drew the services
of SID- SMITH. Shitty, an old Maple Leaf favourite,
should give the club all the zip and zest it needs in
every game. We're personally waiting to hear big
things from the playing coach. Nov that the Dunnies
have packed and are on their. *ay seeking to return
with Canada's hockey prestige, we'll keep our fingers
crossed and hope for the best on thl tour.

IS THIS A MAN'S SPORT? -When February 1
Moves around on the '58 calendar, the game of
hockey will officially be invaded by . the female class,
On this date WATFORD will have its all feminine
line hooked up against the Lucan pee wees in an
exhibition game. However, something is in store for
WATFORD that they haven't bargained for! Lucan is
dressing four fight'n females for the match. The four-
some run under the names of JOAN WHITEHEAD,
BARBARA READY, JANET KEHL and PATSY I-IAR
RIGAN. We're told that the females have been added
to the Lucan club to supply the "scoring punch" to
whip Watford, So keep your heads up fellas! .. ,
SID ABEL'S Son will don, a" pair of blades in the
Lucan arena on March 15 when the SHAMROCK
TOURNAMENT will take place again ... More notes

has inherited. the name of the "GHERKINS" for his
