Reminiscing

December means Christmas
and since Christru.as is tradition-
ally a time for reminiscing 1
asked some TV personalities to
share their memories with this
column. They told me about
their happiest and their saddest
Christmases, about gifts they
have .cherished and of how they
spend the holiday.
Cliff McKay's ,happiest Christ-
was one that began on a note
of tragedy. "But it had a happy
ending,". said Cliff. "I remember
Standing in the Sick Children's
Hospital while our doctor told
me that although our son had
polio he would get entirely
Well."
Shirley Harmer Murray said
"The first Christmas of our
married life was my happiest".
"One of my brightest Christ-
mases," Wally Koster told me,
"goes back a few years to when
our son was 21A, He woke up
on Christmas morning and walk-
ed into the living room where
the tree was surrounded by all
the things he'd asked. Santa for.
He looked at them for a few
seconds then walked right •by
them and came up to his mother
and I and looked up at us with
those big brown eyes of his and
said "Mommy and. Daddy, you're
my best Christmas present'.
Our eyes filled up , when we
looked at each other and realiz-
ed that our love for him reach-
ed out to him and gave him
such a feeling of security that
we were more important to him
'than the shiny new toys. It was
a challenge to us both too. We
have to ;make sure that he goes
through life with that same
sense of love and security."

Anne Gable's. Christmases
"are all happy. I'm of Maceion-
ian extraction so we celebrate
in the ,old country tradition with
special little ceremonies and
lots to eat and a good deal of
hilarity. I spent all of my child-
hood Christmaseswith my:
grandparents in Hamilton. Now
that they have passed away.•my
mother carries on the tradi-
tion. Christmas Eve is reserved
for the .immediate family. We
sit around and sing and eat and
rehash all the events of the
year. Christmas Day all the
relatives gather at our home
for the usual huge Christmas
dinner."
In case any readers are.look-
ing for a stuffing that's excit-
ingly different for this 4 year's
turkey I asked Anne for her
mother's Macedonian r e c i p e.
Here it is:
A cup of cooked raisins, a
half cup of cookedrice, a cup
of chopped walnuts together
with a• dash of mace and a
is a er salt and a halfof ctspaofoblack
a
pepper are. added to .a pound of
bacon that has been cut up and
fried with one chopped onion. To
this mixture ten crushed soda
biscuits are added, the entire
'recipe is salted once more and
mixed well. The resultant dress -
ipg is extremely tasty,
The Hansen Sisters remember
one childhood Christmas vividly.
"Dad brought Koine a. five pound
box of _ehocolates'", said Flor-
ence, "Andrea and I went wild,
Every time we thought it was
safe we too k a handful. We al-
most finished :the box and we
were so ill we had to stay in
bed right through the holidays,"
That was quite a contrast to
,another Christmas the Nansens
told me about, one when even
one candy would have been a
longed for luxury, 'More about
that next week when we .continue
Christmas reminiscing with the
stars,
