Fatality Inquest

A corner's jury in St. Marys
Thursday night, December 30,
found no evidence of negligence
in the highway death of William
.1, Mills, who died December 10
following a traffic accident on
Highway 23 at Woodham.
The jury attached no blame
to Rev. Cecil Klages, R.R. 4
Mitchell, whose car struck Mr.
Mills, and found that he had
done everything in his power to
avoid the accident.
Members of the jury found
that Mr. Mills' death was the
result of internal 'hemorrhage
caused by a ,fractured pelvis,
with, shock a contributing factor,
Mr. Mills also suffered a 'fen-
tured left leg when struck by
the Klages car,. The accident
Occurred at the intersection of
of Highway No. 83 and the sixth
concession of Blanshard town-
ship, in. Woodham, at about 5:15
p.m., Mr., Mills was taken to St.
Marys Memorial Hospitall and
died there at about 10 p.m.
Mr. Klages testified that Mr.
Mills was within two car lengths
away when he first saw him on
the highway. Other witnesses
testfied. that Mr. Mills had run
forward as the Klages vehicle
veered to the left in an attempt
to avoid a collision, and police
evidence showed there were
skidmarks for 55 feet along the
highway.
The accident occurred at dusk,
when vehicles were' traveling
..cganing
toward Mr.* Klages „passed' him
just' before the Collision, which,
the jury felt, could have 'blinded
him, momentarily.
The inquest was conducted by
Crown Attorney W. E. Goodwin,
QC, and coroner Dr. T. J. Mc-
Innes. The jury members were
Thomas Brogden,', foreman, C.
E. Richardson, John - Chisholm,
Albert Jackson and George
Bradley,
