Doing Well.
A despatch from Winnipeg says : The,
crop report issued by the C. P. R. on
Wednesday indicates, that spring
wheat is doing excellently along the en-
tire system. There has been an abun-
dance of rain and conditions never were
more favorable.
However, from Outside Sources it is
learned that winfer wheat in Alberta is
bordering on a failure. No rain has
fallen ever since early fall, and_ the
drouth is already serious. Considerable
portions of winter wheat in many sec-
tions have been ploughed up and the
land resown with coarse grains.
A despatch from Medicine Hat says :
Sunday's rain is estimated to have bee
the heaviest fall in a given time ever ex-
perienced in Medicine Hat district. Re-
ports feom the south go to show that
even more raM fell out in that direction.
This will tend to relieve the drouth pre-
vailing and will greatly benefit the win-
ter wheat crop.

the annual meeting of the Royal Army
Temperance Association, held on Fri-
day at the United Service Institution,
tinder the presidency of the Duke of
Connaught, the gratifying statament that
sobriety is increasing in the army was

sound of the curfew bell may soon again
be heard in the streets of Montreal,'
pealing out its warning at 9 o'clock every
evening to all children under 15 years of
age that they must hasten to their
homes. It is not improbable that, In
the near future the City Council will be
asked to revive this custom as a means
of protecting the children from the rnor-
al dangers to whien they are exposed by
being allowed to roam around the
streets till all hours of the night. A
petition to this effect had been circu-
lated and largely signed at the begin-
ning of the year, and steps had been
taken to present It to the City Council.
The civic elections intervened, however,
4nd the matter was allowed to deep for
the time being. There is now tallc of
reviving the movement.
