It was well attended. A program of recitations and musi- Acal numbers was given. Games were ’played and lunch was served follow­ ed by treats for the children, Gorrie Team Trims Moorefield 8-4 GORRIE—The Gorrie hockey team has been quite successful so far this season. The opening game was play­ ed at Palmerston against Moorefield with a score of 8-4 in favor of Gorrie. Later, at Drayton, the score was Gorrie 5, Drayton 4. f ' the local team played in Harriston, with Fordwich, when the score was Gorrie 6, Fordwich 0. Basic Training Course Taken by Scissorettes GORRIE—The Corrie Scissorettes held their second meeting at the home of Doris Dinsmore on December 17, Ten members were present and answered the roll call by displaying two pieces of material, one to suit a dainty girl, the second piece suitable for the energetic type, The girls discussed the best choices of line, texture and color to suit in­ dividual personality and figure, The girls were instructed on altering a pattern and preparing material for cutting. Each member must find pictures of two garments that would be becoming to her for the next meeting on Janu­ ary 7. At the time each girl will be asked why she had decided on these particular styles. Mrs, Bower Farrish gave the story! of "White Christmas”. The C.G.LX choir sang “O Loveliest Night’* “In the Mellow Light”, Margie _ Hastie, Corinne Rhame, Ruth Grainger, Joyce Ford and Leon­ ore Feigel lit the candles. Holds Annual Meeting GORRIE—The W.A, of the Gorrie United Church held its annual meet­ ing at the home of Mrs. Harold Robinson. Group 4 had the program with Mrs. L. Johnston as leader. Mrs. C. Michel read the Scripture from Luke 2:1-20. Mrs. Johnston gave a reading “Faith Is Round the Manger”. It was decided to hold a congregational pot luck supper on January 6th. Christmas Services At Anglican Church GORRIE—There will be a Christmas service of carol singing for the parish of Gorrie, Fordwich and Wroxeter at 11 a.m. in Trinity Church, Fordwich, on Sunday next, Dec. 25. Service will be withdrawn in St. Stephen’s Church, Gorrie and in St. James’ Church, Wroxeter next Sunday. Christmas Party On Friday evening the annual Christmas party for the children will be held in the Legion hall at 8 p.m. All members of the congregation are cordially invited to attend. Cooke Passes in Hospital ‘ GORRIE—Funeral services for Mrs. Nicholas T. Cooke were conducted on Sunday, afternoon at 2.30 at the Ed- ’gar funeral home by the Rev. W. J. V. Buchanan of the Gorrie United Church. Clara Hertzberger, wife of Nicholas T. Cooke, Gorrie, passed away Wed­ nesday afternoon in the Wingham General Hospital, after a week’s ill­ ness, from coronary thrombosis. She was born in Normanby Town­ ship in 1876 and was a daughter of the late Henry Hertzberger and his wife, Christine Yager. She had lived in Howick Township, near Clifford, until she and her husband retired to Gorrie some five years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Cook were married on Dec. 26th, 1899 and would have marked their 56th wedding anniversary in two more weeks. Surviving besides her husband are three daughters, Mrs. Peter Merkling- er (Adelta), Waterloo; Mrs. John Mus­ grove (Edna), Gorrie; and Mrs. Mel­ vin Greenley (Florence), Clifford; two sons, Carl, Waterloo and Clifford, of Gorrie. Seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and a sister, El­ izabeth and a brother William, of Wa­ terloo, also survive. Mrs. Cooke was a member of the United Church. Interment was in the Clifford Cemetery, the pallbearers be­ ing August Keil, George King, John Dinsmore, Norman Wade, Wesley Tremble and Thomas Douglas.
