Norman Penrose was ordained in the United Church, Sudbury, this year, and is now stationed at Bralorne, north of Vancouver, B.C, Mrs. Clarence Cox, of Westfield, a former resident of the village has been very ill in Clinton Hospital dur­ ing, the past week suffering from a stroke. Misses Irene and Pearl Paton, of Toronto, spent the week-end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Coultes. Mr, and Mrs. Claytpn Scholtz, of London, spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Scholtz. Miss Mildred McClenaghan spent the week-end in Toronto with her friend, Miss Symi Iwamota, Reg. N., who is on the dtaff of the General Hospital there, Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Ross and family, of Galt, and her mother, Mrs. Ingram, of Novra, Manitoba, visited on Sunday with his mother, Mrs. Mac Ross and Miss Olive Terriff. Mrs. Smith who has been visiting with her daughter, Mrs. Russell Chapman, has been ill during the past week with pneumonia and a heart condition. The ladies of the W.M.S. of the United Church here, were entertained on Tuesday last by the W.M.S. of Wingham United Church, in the S.S. room of the church, Rev. D. J. Mac­ Rae was the special speaker and all enjoyed the social half hour together. The local Institute has been invited to attend the golden anniversary meeting of St. Helens Institute, held in the hall there next Thursday after­ noon. Mrs. Chas. C. Vjttie, of Wroxeter, was united in marriage With William Thomas Barnes, son of Mr. and Mrs. William A. Barnes, of Kitchener, Rev. A. W. Dillistowe per­ formed the marriage ceremony and the traditional wedding music was provided by Harold Hill at the organ Given in marriage by her step­ father, the bride wore a white satin full-length gown, fashioned with a yoke of marquisette, a deep Bertha collar, edged in rosebud lace and tiny buttons down the back of the fitted bodice. Her full hooped skirt featured a bustle, and her embroidered finger­ tip veil was held in a braided satin headpiece entwined with pearls. She carried a white prayer book with gardenias and feathered white car­ nations, and wore a silver locket which belonged to her great-grand­ mother. Mrs. Betty Martin, of Kitchener, was matron of honor. She wore a ballerina-length gown of garnet red taffeta, styled with a halter neckline, a fitted bodice and crinoline skirt embroidered in sequins with a flower motif. Her headdress was of powder pink feathers with matching gloves and she carried a cascade bouquet of pink carnations. Dennis Barnes, of Sarnia, was groomsman. Following the marriage ceremony a family dinner was held at The Old Mill, in Kitchener. The bride’s mother received guests in a two-piece grape­ blue crepe dress with dusty pink ac­ cessories and wore a corsage of pink carnations. The groom’s mother chose a two-piece grey crepe dress with rose pink accessories and a corsage of pink carnations. For a wedding trip to New York, the bride wore a soft dove-grey tailor­ ed 'suit with a soft yellow feather hat, black patent shoes and purse and yellow accessories. The service in the 'United Church here will be held next Sunday evening at 7.30 when the Young Adult Group will hdld a special service. The guest speaker will be John K. Mr. Cecil Falconer spent a few days last week at the home of his son, Mr. The regular monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute was held in the Memorial Hall here on Tuesday even­ ing, with the president, Mrs. Frank Ross, presiding. Over eighty ladies were present, a bus-load of Institute ladies from Lucknow and several cars from Kari-Shea Institute being guests for the evening. After the opening exercises, the following business items were dis­ cussed: bicycle racks for S.S. No. 10, the new cupboards purchased for the kitchen from the Wingham High School and installed by Mr. Emerson, catering to the West Wawanosh Federation banquet, the euchre this Thursday evening, the Teeswater play, for Oct. 21, contributions to the rummage sale on Saturday, the golden anniversary meeting at St. Helens next week and the pot-luck supper at the next monthly meeting. Mrs. Nelson Pickell then gave an interesting paper on the motto, “Liv­ ing a life, is more than making a living,” emphasizing that we must try to do our good turn to help out, to be happy, and optimistic, and overcome jealousy, fear, and worry, with a deeper religious conviction. Miss Mar­ garet Rae sang, “Memories.” The roll call was answered by a home safety measure. » Mrs, Robert Purdon then gave a comprehensive report of the first day of the recent area convention Guelph. Mrs. Bert Roach gave the highlights of the banquet and the address on “Humor,” and Mrs. Lavis told of the meeting on the* second day emphasizing the splendid work of Dr. Lotta Hitschmanova, in organizing for help to war-torn nations, to help the women and children, and her work in the Unitarian Service. Mrs. Colyer then gave a humorous mono­ logue, with an Edgar Guest encore. Mrs. Lewis, from Wingham pre­ sented a very interesting and instruc­ tive demonstration on floral designs and arrangements, and blending of colors and foliages, making of ribbon bows, and many hints for the care of flowers and bulbs. Mrs. Webster and Mrs. Havens then gave two numbers on the autoharp and mouth-organ and the meeting was closed with the National Anthem. Whitechurch ladies served lunch and all gether.
