The* cost of such weed destruction shall be paid by the owner of the sub­ divided land or collected in the same manner as taxes. Under the provisions of the Weed Control Act, Section 19, every person refusing to obey any lawful order of a weed inspector, or who interferes with or obstructs any weed inspector in the perform­ ance of his duties shall be guilty of an offense and liable to a penalty of up to $50.00. There was an enrolment of 84, and 75 received certificates for perfect attendance. Rev. J. W, Hird of United Church was assisted by Rev. Frank Russell of Trinity Anglican Church. Miss Maud Harding, a local girl who teaches school in Toronto, has given time from her vacation for nine years to help with the work, Miss Elva Foster was in charge of music. Several pupils received:, certificates for attending the school for three, four, five, six, seven and nine years.. This year had the largest enrolment.' Tour Goderich Thirty-five members of the Ford­wich Women’s Institute enjoyed a bus trip to Goderich last week. The Chamber of Commerce provided a guide to take them to the various places of interest, the Huron County Museum, the elevators down at the docks, the salt refinery, where each received a carton of salt, and the new Knox Presbyterian Church. All enjoyed a boat ride, then supper GORRIE August Services The Rev. F. E. Russell will be on holidays during the month of August. Service Will be withdrawn on the 1st Sunday of the month. On Sunday, August 14th, the Rev. H. L. Parker, of Wirigham, will con­ duct a service for the parish in Trinity 'Church,. Fordwich, at 2.30 p.m. On Sunday, August 21, at 2,30 p.m. he will have , service at St. Stephen’s Church, Gorrie and on Sunday, August,28, at 2.30 p.m. the service will be held in St. James’ Chiirch, Wroxeter. Mr. Russell will be In charge next Sunday July 31st, at the usual hours in the three churches. Memorial Service at Cemetery Members of the Howick L.O.L. and L.O.B.A, lodges held their annual Memorial service at the cemetery on Sunday, when floral tributes were laid on .the mound in memory of the de­ parted members. The Rev. F. E. Rus­ sell, rector of the Anglican Church was the speaker and chose as his sub­ ject “Our Honored Dead.” Use Diesel Engine A diesel engine was used on Thurs­ day and Friday on the Teeswater and Orangeville branch of the C.P.R. for the first time. If it replaces the coal engine an hour’s time will be cut off the trip from Toronto. Personals Mrs. Effie McCrackin and daugh­ ters, Viola and Violet left last Tues­day morning by bus to visit friends in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Dane arrived on Saturday from Calgary, Alberta, and are with Mrs. Robt. Dane. Mr. Robt. Dane is still a patient at the Wingham Hospital but hopes to be permitted to return to his home soon. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Vittie spent Sun­ day with friends in Toronto.Mr. and Mrs. Gregor Roy and son, Robert, of Sudbury, are visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Cloyne Michel. Miss Dorothy McTavish, of Weston, is visiting with Mrs. Harvey Adams. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Miller, Sandra and Elaine, spent Friday in London. They were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Earls and children, of Wroxeter. Mrs. R. H. Stephens returned from Toronto on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Mervyn Stephens and family, of Gode­ rich, spent Wednesday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Stephens. Among those receiving certificates at the closing service of the vacation school at Fordwich United Church on Sunday evening were Evelyn Anne Stephens, Gwen Hyndman, Joyce Ford, Joyce Theodorf and Ruth Edgar, Mr. and Mrs. John Underwood, Brenda and Kevin, of Palmersto'n, vis­ited on Sunday with Mrs. Earl Under­wood. Miss Jean Errington, of Dungannon, is the new hair dresser at Johnston’s barber shop. Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Dane, of Tor­ onto, visited for a few days ’last week with Mr. and Mrs. Norman Wade. Mr. Robert Wade, of Montreal, was a weekend visitor at the same home. Miss Emma Irwin is holidaying at Minden. Miss Pat Strong, of Sarnia, is spending this week at her home. The Rev. G. D. Vogan and Mrs. Vogan, of Thamesville, who have been on holiday at Kincardine Beach, attended service in St. Stephen’s Church on Sunday and called on friends.
