District Annual at Armow (Intended for lost week) Fourteen senior branches and one junior branch from the district were represented when South Bruce WX held its district annual at Armow on Friday, June 10th. Presiding for the morning and afternoon session was Mrs. Donald McCosh. .-Mrs. Victor Emerson gave the secretary’s reports. The reports of standing committees were excellent with all reporting 100%, Mrs, Arthur Hamilton Qf the Women’s Institute branch and home economics service praised the con-’ veners for their splendid reports and stated it was the first district annual "DON'TMAKE ME LAUGH /" “I know what I'm talking about. MacNaughton, board director, gave a report of the F.W.I.O. and brought greetings from that body, South Bruce District at the convention this fall will appoint a board director as it Is their turn. The total receipts in the district were $1,074.74; expenses, $954,06; bank bal­ ance, $116,68. The combined state­ ments of 18 branches showed total receipts, $10,601.65; expenses, $8,022.44; balance on hand in district, $2,579.21. In the program contest for the district, the judges, Mrs, Keating and Mrs. Burrell, Wingham and Mrs. D. S. MacNaughton decided in favor of 1st prize, Holyrood; 2nd, Whitechurch and 3rd prize, Tiverton Junior. Two rugs made by Reid’s Corners and Teeswater were op display and will be entered in the rug contest. COUNCIL MEETS (Intended for last week) The council of the Township of Howick met in the clerk’s office for the regular meeting with all mem­ bers present and Reeve H. Gowdy in the chair. The minutes of the last regular meeting and special meeting were read and on motion of McMic­ hael and Allan were adopted as read. Motions that were carried were as follows: Gibson-Allan—That on the request of the cairn committee the council get permission from the Department of Highways re-cairn for Centennial. Haskins-Allan—That we forward the petition of the Gorrie Police Vil­ lage Trustees re additional street lights to the Hydro Commission. Gibson-McMichael—That we in­ struct the clerk to notify the engin­ eer, W. D. Colby, to make survey and report on the Ed. Killinger Drain. McMichael-Allan—That the Howick Township Council petition the Huron County Council to restore the fox bounty at the rate of $1.50 for pups and $3.00 for old foxes. Haskins-Gibson—That by-law No. 4- 51 be amended re prohibiting dogs running at large to include the police village of Gorrie. Allan-McMichael—That we refund H. Hamilton dog tax. Allan-Haskins—That by-law No. 8- 55 of the Township of Howick for the year 1955 as read the first and second time be passed. Gibson-Haskins—That by-law No. 7- 55 for the Township of Howick for the year 1955, re prohibiting hawkers and peddlers, as read a third time be fin­ ally passed. McMichael-Allan—That by-law No. 6-55 of the Township of Howick for the year 1955, re closing portion of Station Road in Fordwich, be finally passed. McMichael-Gibson—That the road accounts as approved be paid. Haskins-Gibson—That we appoint Mel Allan as commissioner on the Killinger Drain. Allan-Gibson—That Harvey Mc­ Michael be appointed as commissioner on the Cathers Drain. McMichael-Gibson—That Ivan Has­ kins be appointed as commissioner on the Merkley Drain. Haskins-Gibson—That we amend by-law No. 1-55 of the Township of Howick for the year 1955 under the recommendation of the engineer to appoint - Harry Gowdy to replace Elmer Kaufman as commissioner on the Kreller .Drain. Gibson-Haskins—That We instruct the road superintendent to advertise for tenders for the building of Un­ derwood Bridge on B Line and that he order steel and cement for same. Allan-McMichael—That accounts to the amount of $11,014.83 be paid in­ cluding the following: Allowances on Wills Drain No, 2, for old drain, bridge and damages, $297.00; Allowances on Mahood Drain, $272.00; Allowances on T.
