The Woman’s Missionary Society of Knox United Church, held its Easter Thankoffering meeting in the base­ ment °f the church on Tuesday even­ ing, March 29th, They entertained the local Evening Auxiliary group at this meeting. The president, Mrs, Edgar Wight­ man .was in charge and opened the meeting with a hymn, followed by the Lord’s Prayer. The minutes of the last meeting were given by Mrs. Earl" Anderson and the treasurer’s report was given by Mrs. Jesse Wheeler. The groups were reminded about gathering articles of clothing for the bale to be sent in June. The president suggested that all the members who could, to try and attend the Presbyterial meeting in’ Wingham, on April 7th. Mrs. J. R. Coultes was appointed as a delegate to the Presbyterial meet­ ing for the Evening Auxiliary. The worship period followed the theme being “Christ’s Legacy of Peace.” Mrs. Edgar Wightman was the leader, assisted by Mrs. Walter Scott and Mrs. Kenneth -Wheeler. A vocal duet was given by Mrs. George Johnston and Mrs. Ralph McCrea, ac­ companied by Mrs. George Michie. A special Easter message was given by the guest speaker, Mrs. A. Lane, of Brussels. The worship service clos­ ed with a hymn. Mrs. Kenneth Wheeler conducted some Easter contests, after which a lunch was served. Easter Sale i Church Was Well Attended The United Church schoolroom, gay with spring flowers and streamers of purple and gold, was a lovely setting for the Easter Tea and Bake sale on Saturday afternoon. An attractive number of aprons were for sale and Were modeled by the ladies in charge. The tea was arranged by the Tues­ day Starlight group and was conven­ ed by Mrs. Glenn McMichael, assisted by Mrs. D. fitatia and Mrs. John Mc­ Lean. Those attending were received by the president, Mrs. Pete Dobson. At 3 o’clock the minister, Rev, E, W. Mr. Lloyd Townsend has been a pat­ ient in Wingham General Hospital for the past few days. Lloyd is suffer­ ing from pleurisy. We are pleased to know he is improving and wish for him a speedy recovery. The April meeting of the Women’s Institute will be held at the home of Mrs. Thomas Burke on Wednesday. Surprise Shower Mrs. Stewart Cloakey and Mrs. Clare VanCamp were hostesses on Friday evening last at a surprise shoWer, when about thirty friends and neighbours gathered together at Mrs. Cloakey's home, to honor Miss Irene Smith, who is to be married this month. The evening was spent playing games and contests. A highlight of the evening was a mock wedding with Marlene and Eleanor Walsh, Anne and Margaret Wightman, Kay VanCamp, Joyce Armstrong and Marilyn' Campbell. Elaine Bolt provided traditional wed­ ding music on the accordion. After this Laurena Armstrong, Donna Grasby, Karen Anderson, Lorna Bolt and Ruth Michie presented Miss j Smith with a decorated • basket of gifts. Miss Smith thanked everyone for their gifts and best wishes. A lunch was served by the hostess.
