J * a • .u r OF FORDWICH Farmers Lend Helping Hand To Howick Municipal System The telephone system is getting some of the badly broken wires and poles back in shape again, after the severe storm suffered in this district recently. As yet a lot of rural sub­ scribers cannot use their phones, but the village is getting back to normal, The Howick Municipal System has its men out every day on several of the lines. The farmers have all turned out to help when and where they could, to determine the injury. Miss Annie Cunningham, of Har­ riston, spent a few days last week with Mr, and Mrs. Ed, Matthews. Mrs, Cfecil COoper spent a couple Of days last week with friends in Lon­ don. Al. Freis spent the week-end in Toronto. Miss Jean Wallace of Toronto, spent the week-end with her parents, and Mrs..Atchison Wallace. To Sew for Bale The regular meeting of the W.A. of Trinity Church was he)d in the basement of the church on Thursday afternoon with the president, Mrs. Stan Forester, presiding. The hymn, “Near the Cross”, opened the meeting after which. Mrs, Forester read the Scripture, St. Mark, 10:10-29. The roll call was answered by a verse from Exodus and each member handing in an article suitable for the fall bazaar. Mintes of the last meeting and the correspondence were read. . Prayer partnership was discussed and left over to the next meeting. Mrs. Ruby Foster read a chapter from the study book on Africa. Mrs. Emmerson Har­ grave, treasurer, also gave- her report. Sewing to be done fox- the bale was given to the members after which Mrs, Forester closed the meeting with prayer and ta social time was spent. Rev. Tristram Resigns The official board meeting of the three charges, Newbridge, Mayne and Fordwich, was held in the United Church, Fordwich, last week with a good representation. The two main items of discussion were the raising of the minister’s salary to $3100. and the resignation of Rev. W. R. Tristram, which was received with regret, owing to ill health. Rev. Tristram acted as chairman for the session. Demonstrates Darning The eighth meeting of the Fordwich Busy Bees was held last week at the home of Mrs. Crosley Sothern. The roll call was- answered by each girl showing a patch she had made. Mrs. Sothern discussed plans for Achieve­ ment Day and gave some hints on judging slips. She also showed each member how to darn and they must show a sample at the next meeting as well as having their record hooks completed. Lunch was served. The next meeting will be on March 23rd. Suffers Injury ' The many friends o'f Mrs. Wray Cooper will be sorry to hear she suf­ fered a fall in her home last, week while paper hanging. At first it was thought she had broken her ankle but Dr. Forde had it X-rayed at the Listowel Hospital and it was found she had a very bad sprain and torn ligaments. She will have to have it in a cast for some time. Win at Euchre Seventeen tables of progressive euchre were in play at the Community Hall.last week at the party sponsored by the Library Board. High prize for ladies was won by Mrs. Anson Dem- erling and the consolation prize wdnt to Margaret Allan. High prize for the gentlemen was won by Clark Renwick of Belmore, and Clarence Deitz, of Gowanstown won the consolation prize. Several games of bingo were also played. Personals Mrs-' Cecil Yeoman, of Wroxeter visited one day last week with Mrs. Wellington Hargarve. • Mr. and Mrs. Anson Ruttan and family visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ruttan in Wingham. Visitors on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Campbell were Mr. and Mrs. George Moss Sr., and Miss Lor- rene, and Mr. and Mrs, George Moss and Karen of Galt: Miss Marian Doig, of Kitchener, spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Doig. The many friends of Mr. ^Albert Johnston will be glad to hear he was able to return to his home on Sat­ urday after being confined for the past two weeks to hospital. We wish him a speedy recovery. The Scripture lesson was read by Ivan Howatt and prayer was led by Mrs. Howard Campbell. Readings were given by Clifford Snell and Harold Campbell. The stories were told by Mrs. Hugh Blair and Mrs. Howard Campbell. The benediction was given by Mrs. Blair.
