Thursday afternoon the ladies from i
all directions gathered in the basement
of the Presbyterian church and took
six quilts out of the frames. Lunch
was served.
Friday evening Air. Lome Evans,
who is spending a few days with his
family, was presented with a wrist
watch and address, James AfcNeil of
Saskatoon with a signet ring, Wesley
Abram of Camp Borden with a wrist
watch. Airs. AIcNeil, Airs, Abram and
Lome Evans all made a suitable reply,
Air. and Mrs. McNeil, Cecil of Mild-
may, Elva, attended the funeral in
Clinton on Friday of Airs. Peacock,
Air. McNeil’s sister,
Air, Hunkin and Jack Holland were
in Gorrie Friday attending the funeral
of little Donald Hueston, who was
drowned in the dam there.
Air, and Mrs. Robt. Breen of Wing
ham, visited Afrs, Scott on Sunday.
Airs. Dell Jeffray of Toledo Ohio,
paid the village a flying visit on Tues

on Saturday from her trip to the West,
after visiting friends as far west as
Calgary.

killed on the track on Alonday night
last week by the late train.
Afrs, James Jamieson has been un
der the doctor’s care during the past

Air. and Mrs. R. Pounder of Souris,
Alan., Mr, and Afrs. Thos. Pounder and
daughter, Patsy, of Toronto, spent
Saturday with Mr. and Afrs.. Robert
Ross, and Afrs. Peter Naismith, Sarles,
N. Dakota, has been visiting with her
i sister, Afrs. Ross.
Mrs. J. G. Gillespie and Afiss Agnes,
and Afrs. W, R. Farrier and Garnet,
visited with relatives in Toronto on
Sunday.
The Red Cross Society held a quilt
ing at the home of Afrs. Robt. Ross on
Friday last. Don’t forget the Straw
berry Social being held in the base
ment of the Presbyterian Church this
Wednesday night under the auspices of
the Red Cross Society. The Benmiller
Dramatic Society- will, present their
play in the church shed, following the
supper. All are invited to come along.
Afrs. Ben AlcClenaghan, Irwin and
Carl, motored to Toronto on Friday
and Carl had a check-up at the Child
ren’s Hospital, and was in Al condi
tion, and they spent the week-end with
relatives at Hillsburg. Mrs. Arthur
Moore accompanied them and visited
with her daughter, Mrs, Basil Thomp

A wedding of interest to this com
munity was solemnized in Mandaumin
United Church, Petrolia, at 1 p,m, on
Saturday, June 21st, when Orris Afc-
Alullen, daughter of Air. and Afrs. Afc-
Afullen of Petrolia, became the bride
of Afr. Melville Beecroft, son of Afr.
John Beecroft and the late Afrs. Bee
croft of E. Wawanosh. Those who at
tended the wedding from this com

bert and Beatrice, Air. and Afrs. AV.
Dow, Afr. and Afrs. Leask AIcGee and
son Jim, and Afr, Henry AIcGee. The
many friends of the groom in this dis

The regular monthly meeting of the
W.Af.S. of the United Church was
held on Wednesday last with the vice
pres., Mrs. Gillespie, in charge. Miss
C. Laidlaw led in prayer, Afrs. Herb
Laidlaw read the Scripture lesson, and
missionary readings were given by
Afrs. Scholtz, Miss Afuriel Watt and
Airs. J. D. Beecroft. Afrs. Scholtz and
Airs. Laidlaw sang a duet, and Afrs,
Clarence Cox led in prayer for the mis
sionaries. The W.Af.S. held a tea at
the home of Mrs. Jas. Falconer to quilt
on Thursday.
Afr, Jas. Currie, the census taker,
was in this locality on Saturday last.
Air. and Mrs. Harry Robb and two
sons, of Goderich, visited one'day last
week with Afr, and Afrs. Thos. Gaunt.
Afisses Eileen and Shirley . Snell
have been laid up with an attack of
measles, and now Afiss Ada Dow is
laid up also.
Afr. and Afrs. Wm. Robinson spent
the week-end at the home of their dau
ghter, Afrs. Cecil Wheeler, Aforris.
Afr. and Mrs. Will Stewart, Fergus,
spent Sunday at the home of Mr, and
Afrs, J. D, Beecroft, and Afrs. Kirk,
who has been visiting at Fergus, re
turned home with them.

The June meeting of United Church
Mission Band was held in the church
school room Alonday last, The pres
ident was in charge and opened with
the hymn “All the happy children” fol-
fowgd. bx.d:he.Invocation, “The Beati
tudes” were repeated responsively,
then the prayer for peace and the
Lord’s Prayer in unison. The second
hymn chosen was “The wise may
bring their learning.” Heralds res
ponding were Africa, June Waller; In
dia, Margaret Wearring; Canada, Lois
Hamfily. Mrs, Grant told the story of
the Bible .Jesus knew. The business
period was conducted. The children
were delighted that their leader, Airs.
Sanderson, was able to attend and tell
them, an interesting story of a Japan

As usual Airs. F. Thompson, the
president, conducted the business per
iod. Plans were discussed for a spec
ial meeting to held in July if the spea-
cker can be procured.
Interest in the softball games being
played in the Town League Alonday,
Wednesday and Friday evenings is
getting greater each game. Lloyds
head the league for the first week of
play and they have a well balanced
club, but the other teams say they will i
not be left behind. The league is now!
fully organized and it is expected that!
many will turn out to see these games.!
A silver collection is taken and the
league will turn over to the Red Cross
any surplus they have at the end of
the season.
On Wednesday night, last week,
Lloyds defeated the High School in a ,
close contest and on Friday night Gur

emnized by Rev. Hugh C. Wilson, at
the manse of Knox United Church,
Auburn, on Wednesday afternoon at
three o’clock, when Elva Jane, daugh
ter of Air. and Afrs, John Carter, of
West Wawanosh, was united in mar
riage to William John Armstrong, eld
er son of Air. and Mrs. Harry Arm
strong, of East Wawanosh. The bride
was becomingly attired in a frock of
light blue crepe with white accessories,
and a corsage of roses and fern. The
attendants were Afr. and Mrs. George
Gould, of Clinton, A buffet luncheon
was served at the home of the bride’s
parents with only immediate relatives
present. Air. and Mrs. Armstrong left
on a motor trip to Niagara Falls and
Toronto.

Father Hawkins officiating, when
Grace, youngest daughter of Afr. and
Afrs. George Kreutzwiser, became the
bride of Harold AfcCormick, eldest son
of Afr. and Afrs. John AfcCormick of
Culross. The bride, given in marriage
by her only brother, Air. Oliver
Kreutzwiser, wore a heaven blue sheer
frock with white accessories, and a
corsage of red carnations. She carried
an ivory prayer book with blue and
white streamers tied with rosebuds and
lily of the valley. The bridesmaid was
the bride’s niece, Miss Helen Schaefer
of Newmarket, wearing a dusky pink
crepe dress and a corsage of deep pink
carnations. Air. William AfcCormick,
brother of the bridegroom, was best
man. The ushers were Afr. Wilbur
Beninget of Formosa and Mr. William
