Robinson and Miss Gladys Stayed to visit with her grandparents, Mr, and Mrs. Albert Patterson Spent Friday last at the home of Mrs. Maggie Clifton, Lucknow, Mrs, Clif ton is suffering from a recent stroke. Mr. Gordon Rintoul has purchased the Jackson place, formerly the poul try farm belonging to Mr, Duncan Kennedy, across from Mr. John Craig’s farm. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Wheeler, Mor ris, visited on Saturday with, her par ents, Mr, and Mrs. Wm. Robinson. The Y.P.U. of the United Church was in charge of (Mrs; Harold Pollock on Monday night and the theme of the meeting was "Medical Missions" or "Jesus Answers’ a Doubting World." Millan Moore gave a reading,- “The Surgeon’s Hand.” Miss Eileen M'c- Clenaghan read the Scripture lesson and Clarence McClenaghan gave the comments’ on the lesson. Mrs, Ezra’ Scholtz sang (the yraper hymn solo, with .the young people responding with the prayer. Miss Agnes Gillespie was in charge of the topic, the fourth chapter of the mission book “Moving Millions” and Miss Mildred McClen aghan led in prayer. Millan Moore, Clarence McClenaghan, Mr, H. Pol lock and Miss M. Short Course Attendance Increased The short courses ‘being held are maintaining their interest and attend ance has increased during the week. Miss Eadie, of the Department of Ag riculture, Toronto, was a visitor to the girls’ class. The boys have been addressed by'J, A, Teller, of Paris, on "Sheep Marketing", D, McMillan, of Stratford, on "Cream Grading, and Testing" and also J, F. L. Simmons, of Toronto, on Farm Forestry, who were present as special instructors. Practical judging was carried out as follows, market hogs and beef entitle at the barns of C, R» Coultes, breeding hogs> at the barm of Robt. Coultes, E. Wawanosh; dairy cattle at the farm of ex-Reeve Cardiff, of Morris, and ap ples at the cold storage rooms at Brussels. On Friday afternoon, the classes joined for the literary meeting - when Ruth Wheeler, president of the girls’ class, presided. The program consisted of an address by R. J. Scott, President of the United Farmers’ Co- Operative Co, Musical selections by an orchestra with Freda Jordan, Har vey McDowell, Ross Anderson and Charlie Higgins as members1, a read ing" by Roy Bennett, Rev, J. B. Town end also spQke a few words. A humor ous kit was presented by Jean Elliott, Irma Cook and Robert Yuill. The Journal was read by Bruce Scott, A vocal duet by Freda Jordan and E1-. eanor Sprung was enjoyed. —«-!----- \ Red Cros Canvass to Start Soon The local Red Cross organization has been granted a charter and will be given "Branch" standing for its work. Detailed arrangements tor ,canvassing 'the village and surrounding territory will be made without delay and work on garments for soldiers, etc., started as soon after that as possible, A re cord of progress will be made through the newspapers from time to time that all concerned may* know what is being done. Mr. Amos Smith is seriously ill with gangrene in his foot, The annual meeting of BJyith Agri cultural Society will be held in the Orange Hall Saturday, Jan. 20th, The Women's Association of United Church are holding a tea on Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Grasby and will be in charge of group one, Mr, Ralph B*ok has taken, a position with the Bank of Commerce, at Ailsa Craig. The Week of Prayer was held last week, owing to the stormy weather the attendance was not as large as former services. Splendid inspiration al addresses were given by Rev^ H, Wilson, Auburn, Rev.' The funeral of Miss Jean Evelyn Barbiour, daughter of Rev. and M,rs. Robt. Barbour of Toronto, was held on Friday afternoon from Trull’s Fun eral Parlours, Toronto, t-o Greenhill Cemetery, .Lucknow, whdre Rev. Mr. Todd, of the' United Church, had charge of, the service. Miss Barbour taught school for a few years and af ter a serious illness, had been an in valid for the past .seventeen years. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Robson, of Walker ton, also Mr. Wm, Barbour and Miss Genevieve Watt, attended the funeral. Rev. Mr. Barbour^ spent the week-end here with his brother, Mr, Wm. Bar bour. Besides the parents, one sister, Mrs. M, I. Albery, survives. On account of the torrential rains on Sunday, the church service in the United Church was withdrawn, al though the Sunday School service was held.
