St. John and Mr. and Mrs. Russel Kelce and Bob, of Kansas City, Mo., who have been attending the World’s Fair at New York, arriv­ ed at the home of the former’s broth­ er, Mr. Wm. Robinson on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Kelce and son, left on Monday after visiting with other rela­ tives in E. Wawanosh and with Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Robinson, of Wingham, but Mrs. St. John will spend some weeks here. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Graham, Conn, Spent the week-end at the home of Mr. Robt. Carrick. A splendid midsummer c.ircle meet­ ing of the W.M.S. of the Presbyterian churches of Calvin, Langside and Chalmers was held last Thursday at the home of Mrs. Robt. Ross when forty ladies were present. The meet­ ing was in charge of the President, Mrs. Robt. Mowbray and Mrs. J. Pol­ lock read the Scripture lesson. Mrs. J. Craig gave the Glad Tidings pray­ er, and Mrs. Albert Patterson, the Of­ fertory prayer. Miss Janet Craig sang a solo and the guest speaker, Mrs. K. McLean, of Wingham, gave an inter­ esting address on “Service” exempli­ fied by a survey of the work on mis­ sionary lines in the home fields of Canada. Miss Janet Robertson led in prayer for the missionaries and' Miss Merle Wilson closed the meeting with prayer. Lunch was served and a soc­ ial half hour much enjoyed by all. . Mr. Carman Farrier, who is taking a short course at Western University, London, spent Sunday at his home here. Mr. Orval Tiffin has purchased a new car. We arc pleased to note that Mr. Tom Wilson has secured the position- of principal at St. Helens continuation school for the next year. Misses Catharine and Agnes Patt­ erson are spending a week at Grand' Bend. Mr. and Mrs. Dale, of Toronto, vis­ ited recently with Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Kennedy. Mr., and Mrs. Mac Ross and Rev. and Mrs. Graydon Cox and Donna and Miss Olive Terriff visited. Wed­ nesday last with Rev. and Mrs. Stew­ art of Moorefield. Miss Lorna McClenaghan spent last Sunday at the home of her sis­ ter, Mrs. Wilbur Nicholson, Auburn. Mrs. J. Kerr nad Mrs. Roy McGee, of Wingham, motored to Chatham on Saturday and Mr. and Mrs. Naylor, who have spent the last few weeks in Manitoba, returned home with them. Mr. and Mrs. Naylor had a pleasant trip, and report seeing splendid crops in the West. Mr. Ray Negus .and Mr. Malcolm Ross, of Levack, spent their holidays last week with the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mac Ross and left for home- on Sunday night, taking the boat from Tobermoiy. On Sunday they and Mr. and Mrs. Ross and Miss Terriff vis­ ited with Mr. and Mrs. Nejl Phillips of Dundalk. Mr. and Mrs, Durhin of St. Helens, also Mr. and Mrs, Thos. McGuffin and family, of Lucknow, Visited on Sunday with Mr. a.tnl Mrs. John Jam­ ieson. The held a Gaunt ladies are meeting this Wednesday at the home of Miss Mabel Purdon. Wawanosh, the youngest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Robinson, about 30 years ago she married Mr. Cumber­ land and has since made her home in the West. Her husband and one dau­ ghter, Miss Agnes and ons son, J, D., survive; also five brothers, Pete of Detroit; Ed, of Washington; James of Wingham, William and Thomas of E, Wawanosh; also one sister, Mary, Mrs, St, John, of Kansas City, surviv­ es. The other sister, the late Mrs. W. Beecroft, passed . away three years ago, Mr. Wm. Purdon and Miss Mabel and Mrs. Frank Coulter and Alec re­ turned last Tuesday after spending a pleasant week with relatives in Lan­ ark, Perth and MacDonald’s Corners. Miss Marian Hinde, R.N., left on Monday to ^return to her position in the Hospital at Bronxville, New York City. Mrs. Wm. Bessie Jane Watcher and Chatrfes Sandburn both of Turn­ berry were married in the Methodist Parsonage, Wingham, Her sister Phoebe-Ann Watcher afterwards Mrs. Frank Davison’ and Mr. Robert Dav­ ison were- their atetndants, and both have been deceased for many years. They had three children, Warren and Miss Lorinda at home and Meldrum of Turnberry.- Last Thursday evening Mrs. J. LatrOnica, her sister, and Mr. and- Mrs; Will Latronica and children of Turnberry/and Mr. and Mrs. Mel­ drum Sandburn and family surprised the family by dropping in and spend­ ing the evening in reminiscences and congratulating the happy couple, who are 85 and 82 years young.
