The regular monthly meeting of
the W.M.S, of the United Church was
held last Wednesday with Mrs. J. G.
Gillespie in charge, in the absence of
the President. The Scripture lesson
was read by Mrs. J. D. Beecroft, and
Mrs, Tiffin led in prayer for the mis
sionaries, Miss Clark and Miss Wel-
wood. The story from the study book
The World in Canada, was taken by
Miss C. Laidlaw and told of the pri
vation of peoples living in slum areas
in our cities, people forced to live
there through loss of money and the
depression. Mrs. Ezra Scholtz sang a
solo and Miss Muriel Watt led in
prayer, closing the meeting.
Air. Goyeau, of Leamington, and his
son, Arthur, of Detroit, visited on
Thursday at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Aldin Pardon, and Airs. Goyeau, who
has been visiting here for two weeks,
returned home with them.
Miss Jessie Finlayson, of Whalen,
spent the week-end with E. Wawa-
nosh friends.
Mr, and Mrs. Milton AIcBurney and
three daughters, of Windsor, spent
the week-end at the home of her sis
ter, Airs. Frank Thompson and with
other relatives in E. Wawanosh and
Wingham.
Anniversary Services are being held
in the Presbyterian Church here on
Sunday, May 28th. These are special
Jubilee services in remembrance of
the 75 years that the church has serv
ed in this community. Rev. Jas. Wil
son, of Toronto, will be the special
speaker, and on Wednesday evening
an old-time tea-meeting will be held

The young people of Brick United
Church are holding a cold ham and
salad supper at the church on Tues
day, Aiay 30th. After the supper the
yotmg folks will present their play in
the church with other special num
bers. Dr. Langford, of Toronto, is the
special minister for the Anniversary
services at Brick on Sunday, June 11.

day to attend the Graduation exercis
es in Queen Theological College,
when her brother, Mr. Reid Vipond,
B.D., graduated and will be ordained
on Sunday, June 4th, On Saturday
they attended the wedding of Miss
Dorothy Harlow, B.A., also a gradu
ate of Queens, a daughter of Mr, and
Mrs, Milton Harlow, of Kitchener.
Little Miss Eleanor Wightman acted
as flower girl and Dr. Brown, of Chal
mers United Church officiated itr the
Chapel of the Theological College.

Mr. Roy McGregor of Englehart is
visiting with relatives here.
The regular monthly meeting of
the W. M. S. of the Presbyterian
Church was held last Thursday with
the president, Mrs. Robt. Mowbray,
in charge. The Scripture lesson was
read by Mrs. Jas. Aitcheson and the
prayer for Missionaries was led by
Mrs. Robt. Ross. This was the meet
ing taken by the Home Helpers and
Mrs. Cecil Falconer gave a paper on
the work of this branch of the society
and Miss Agnes'Alackay gave a pap
er on the ‘value of prayer by those
who cannot be present at the regular
meetings, and yet the help-they can
give by prayer. Mrs. Jas, Laidlaw led
in prayer.
Communion service was held in
both the churches here on Sunday and
the choirs rendered special anthems.
The Y.P.U. of the United Church will
entertain the Y.P.U. of St. Plelens
Church on Monday evening.

leading in prayer, Miss MacDonald
read the Scripture lesson and Miss
Vera and Air. Murray Taylor sang,
“How could He love me so?” The
topic, The Farmer and His Church,
was ably taken by Dick Weather head,
and the interesting discussion that fol
lowed was led'by Rev. H. iM. Wright.
Mr. Stanley Todd gave a reading “If
I were a Alan, a Young Man, and
Knew What I Know Today.” Mr.
and AlrsJ Rice sang “Jesus Lover of
my soul,” and the meeting closed with
the society prayer in unison. Air. H.
Pollock was in charge of the games
and contests that followed'. Lunch
was served and a social half hour en
joyed by all. *
The yotmg people of the Presby
terian Church held a short social ev
ening on Alonday night with the pres
ident, Alec Robertson in charge of
the song service that opened’ the meet
ing. Miss Velma Scott read' the Scrip
ture lesson and the Lord’s Prayer was
repeated in unison, Air. Tom Wilson
had charge of the meditation period,
speaking on “In the Garden”, and the
meeting closed With the Atizpah bene
diction.

The regular monthly meeting of
the Missionary Society of the United
Church was held ow Thursday after
noon in the school room, The pres
ident, Mrs. George O. Thornton, pre
sided, and opened the meeting with
the call to worship as outlined in the
Missionary monthly and the Scripture
lesson “The Parable of The Selfish
Man.” Mrs. Rudd contributed a read
ing “The Always Faithful Few”. An
important part in the programme was
the report of the annual meeting of
the Huron Presbyterial W.M.S, pre
sented in a very interesting manner

attend the District Annual Conven
tion at Goderich, June 9th, with the
President, Mrs, Keating, and Mrs. C.

school was chosen as refinishing of
furniture with home utilization

Coultes were named to see about
planting of a tree to commemorate
the Royal Visit. Mrs. H, Wheeler,
Mrs. C. H. Wade, Mrs.. N. Keating
and Edith Procter, were named as a
committee to arrange for the flower
bed at the cemetery. The roll call was
responded to with the name of your
first teacher and first school attended.
A splendid paper on the motto “Do
we live graciously?” was given by
Mrs, James Michie.
Mr. Kinkead, Public School Inspec
tor for East Huron, was present and
gave a splendid talk on the present
school curriculum, which was most in
teresting and instructive, Airs. R. H.
Procter had charge of current events
and gave several extracts from ad
dresses given at the Ontario Educa
tional Assoc. Convention held, in Tor
onto at Easter. Piano number by
Elaine Walsh were much enjoyed. A
social time was spent when lunch was
served by Mrs. R, Procter, Mrs, J.
Wheeler and Mrs. J, Holmes. The
June meeting will be held at the home
of Mrs. Wilbert Procter.

Louis Grant
The death, of Mr. Louis Grant, for
over thirty years an esteemed resident
of this community, occurred early
Wednesday morning. Last fall Mr.
Grant had tine misfortune to break
his leg. He was able to be around
again when lie suffered a heart attack
a few months, ago from which he nev
er fully recovered. Early Wednesday
morning when Mrs. Grant went to
him she found he had passed on. Sur
viving is his. widow, who has the sym
pathy of tunny friends. The funeral
was held! on Friday afternoon with
service conducted by Rev. H. M.
Wright.
The pall-bearers were Messrs, Rob
inson Wopds, D. C. AIcDonald, Colin
McDonald, F. G. Todd, W, I. Miller
and W. A. Humphrey, Interment
took place in Greenhill Cemetery,
