Church Decorated for Easter Service
The Anglican Church was prettily
decorated, with Easter flowers Sunday
when a beautiful Easter Service was
conducted by the Rector, Rev. A. FL
O’Neil, who preached a very fine ser
mon on whqt the Resurrection means
to all who believe. An Easter anthem
by the choir was also much enjoyed.

Evening Auxiliary
The regular meeting of the United
Church Evening Auxiliary was held
last week at the home of Mrs. Wm.
Wright with the average attendance,
The meeting was in charge of Mrs.
A. Stephens and Mrs. J. Cathers and
carried the theme “Christ and the
World-Wide Kingdom.’’ A responsive
Easter devotional service was used as
a worship service. 'Mrs. Cathers took
the study book and Miss Lennox read
a devotional leaflet. Mrs. Whitfield
gave an Easter poem, also Mrs. Mi
chael read a poem ‘Sharing the Load.’
The topic “Why Doesn’t God Inter
vene” by Leslie D. Weatherhead, was
taken by Mrs. Stephens. Mrs. Fydell
led the members in a short dedication
ceremony for home and foreign mis
sions. In the absence of» Mrs. Carson
the. first vice president Mrs. Shera,
took the chair for discussion of busi
ness and when the minutes were read
and adopted and the roll called. The
meeting closed with the Mizpah bene
diction. The hostess served very
dainty refreshments.

The anual meeting of the Gorrie
Branch of the Women’s Institute was
held on Wednesday last at the home
of Miss Mary Maguire with an aver
age. attendance. The meeting opened
with the Ode and Lord’s Prayer. The
president presided. Minutes of the
March meeting were approved "as
read. Several items of business were
dealt with, among them was the ap
pointing of two delegates to the Girls
Conference at the O.A.C. when Miss

Good Friday Service at Anglican
Church
A service was held at St. James
Anglican Church on Good Friday ev
ening when the rector, .Rev. A. H.
O’Neil, choosing as his text I. Cor.
2:2 “For I am determined not to
know anything among you, save Jesus
Christ and Him crucified,” delivered
a sermon very much in keeping with
the occasion. Referring to the story
of the Cross, the rector fully explain
ed the meaning of death and the here
after, and urged that we should all
lay our troubles and short-comings
on the Cross, as was the body of our
Lord and on Easter Day would begin
a newer and a higher living for us all.
Easter Service at Anglican Church
Special Easter Communion Service
was held at St. James Church on Sun
day evening with the rector, Rev. A.
H. O’Neil conducting the service.
The Easter message delivered by the
rector was based on the text found
in St. John 20:4 “So they ran both
together, and the other disciple did
outrun Peter and came first to the
sepulchre,” the theme of which was
“enthusiasm.” Four main thoughts
were expressed in the sermon — the
Fact of the First Easter, Christ, the
Victory, and the command to “Go tell
the brethren.” ’The chancel was
bright with Spring flowers, and Spec
ial Easter music, composed of Easter
hymns, and an anthem by the Choir,
was sung.
Racial Reconciliation will be the
theme of Rev. A, H. O’Neil’s sermon
at the Anglican Church on Sunday
evening next. Mr. O’Neil spoke on
this subject a few weeks ago and is
repeating the sermon by special re
quest next Sunday.

W.M.S. Easter Meeting
The Easter Thank-Offering meet
ing of the W.M.S., United Church,
was held in the church school-room
on Wednesday evennig of last week.
The president-, Mrs. Stocks, presided
over the devotional period. The Roll
Call, An Easter Thought, brought a
fine response in which the Girls’ Mis
sion Circle joined. Miss Elva Stocks
read An Easter Message on Giving.
Mrs. Charles McCutcheon contribut
ed a solo “Alone” with Miss K. Haz
elwood as accompanist. The guest
speaker was Rev. J. F. Anderson of
Wingham, who gave an address full
of interest and inspiration, dealing
with his work as a student missionary
in a mission station north of Battle
ford, Sask. Several Easter hymns
were sung with Miss Mary Gibson as
organist.
Young People’s Union
“The Knight that would not quit’’
was the topic taken by Miss Elva
Stocks at Monday evening’s meeting
of the Y.P.U. Gladys Musgrove was
in charge of the meeting. Scripture
reading was taken by1* Mima Dodds,
followed by the Lord’s Prayer in un
ison, a hymn and the Mizpah benedic
tion brought the meeting to a close.

OBITUARY
Mrs. Thomas Walker
On Wednesday, April 13th, there
passed to the Great Beyond following
a lingering illness a well known cit
izen in the person of Mrs. Thomas
Walker. Phoebe Jane Brawn was
born near Napanee, Ont., in 1877, and
when a child she came with her par
ents to Wroxeter, where she has re
sided1 .ever since. In 1889 she was
given in marriage to Mr. Thomas
Walker who* predeceased her 12 years
ago. For man-years they lived on
the 2nd line of Tilqiberry, later re
tiring to the village. *"’>,
Mrs. Walker was a woman of many
sterling qualities, a god friend,,, and
neighbor, a faithful church member *
when able to attend. For many years
she took a great interest in the work
of the W.M.S. and will be greatly
missed by all who knew her.
She leaves to mourn her loss, a
sister, Miss Ellen Brown, and a bro
ther, Mr. Thomas Brown, another
brother, Leonard, passed on some
years ago.
The funeral service was held at the
home on Friday afternoon, Rev. A.
M. Grant' had charge gnd chose for
his text I Corinthians 15:58 “There
fore my beloved brothren, be ye sted-
fast, upmovable, always abounding in,
the work of the Lord, for as much,
as ye know that your labour is not in
vain.”
The pallbearers were: Mesrs. Al
bert Gallagher, J. N. Allen, D. W.
