Mrs. J. B. Townend gave a temperance reading. The secretary read, fetters of thanks from families who had been sent flowers at time of bereavement. The meeting was clos­ ed with a hymn and benediction. Miss Louise McKenzie, of Sturgeon Falls, is spending the holiday week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs, R, E, McKenzie. Mr. and Mrs. W. Smith, of Lon’don, were holiday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Cole. Miss Mae Young, of London, with her parents, Mr. and Mrs, J. Young.' Gertie and Roy Armstrong and Mr. Will Gorman, of Windsor, spent the holiday with Mr. Wm. Armstrong and family. Mr. John Coultes celebrated his 80th birthday on Thursday. Congrat­ ulations, Y.P.S. to Plan Summer Activities . The Young People’s .Society held its regular meeting on Wednesday night of last week with the Mission­ ary Committee in charge. Bob Gras- by presided and Mrs. C. Procter was at the piano. The lesson was taken by George Grigg. The topic of the evening was an historical survey of the beginning of missionary work in the New Hebrides group of islands in the Pacific Ocean and was ably taken by Carl Proctor. The special feature of the evening was a duet by Elaine and Clifton Walsh. -The attendance was especially good. A committee has been appointed to look into the question of Recreational activity for the summer season and consists of Messrs. Harold Vincent, Borden Scott, Ken Wheeler, Jas. Coultes, John Higgins and Misses Freda Jor­ dan and Eileen McCallum. Misses Verna Johnson and Kay Townend were week-end visitors at ; their home. Sixteen Join Church Special services marked the Easter Day in the United Church. In the morning the Easter Communion Ser­ vice was held. There was a large con­ gregation and 16 new members were ! received into the fellowship of the ' church by profession of faith. In the evening the Easter Thank-Offering ‘ Service of the Women’s Missionary Society was held with Rev. Charles . Cumming of Walton as the special speaker for the occasion. Procter in charge, The meeting was Miss Ethel Johnston is her Easter holidays with her parents. Mr. Will Peacock has been on the sick list for a week. We hope he will soon be better. Mrs. (Rev.) Raynor attended Pres­ bytery meeting the past week. Beautiful Easter lillies adorned the United Church Sunday, presented by the McKee family, Gorrie, in remem­ brance of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. McKee, who were loyal support­ ers of the church for many years. Those visiting: Mrs. Mulvey with her sister at Lucan, Miss Irene Curie with her sister in Gorrie, Joe Tiffin at his home in Wingham. Service was held in the Presbyter­ ian Church Friday afternoon, one baptism and four joining. Mr. and Mrs. Baiers motored to London Sunday to see Mrs. Baiers’ mother. Mr. Solomon Zinn is also in London Hospital and Mrs. George Rutherford. * Mr. Raynor, John Stokes, Richard Jeffray and Jack Reid all had wood bees the past week. A- meeting of the Women’s Insti­ tute was held at the home of Mrs. Shurter on Wednesday afternoon. Following the business session, Mrs. Ackert, of Holyrood, the District President, gave a very splendid ad­ dress and conducted the election of officers which resulted as follows: President—Mrs. Wm. Metcalfe. Mrs. Muir and Norman, Toronto, are visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Wallace. Mrs. Muir will remain for the summer at the Wallace home. Mr. Samuel Marshall spent one day last week in Toronto, with his bro­ ther, Mr. David Marshall, who is a patient in Toronto General Hospital.
