Mrs, Donaldson, who has been vis­ iting with Mrs. Murray for the past week, returned to her home in Tees- water on Monday. A committee has been appointed to look after the contributions of the people of this locality for the carload that goes to the West Mrs. Ben Naylor, delegate of the local Women’s Institute, motored to Walkerton on Thursday with Wing­ ham friends, to attend the Conven­ tion there. Mr. and Mrs. Jones of the Jones Hairdressing School, Listowel, visit- ed on Sunday with May Carrick. Mr. Robert J, Ross has been ill during the past week, having suffered a severe heart attack; Mrs. David Kennedy has been ser­ iously ill during the past two weeks, Mrs. Tichbourne, of Goderich, has been with her mother. Mrs. Irwin, of Toronto, and Mrs, Robt. Phillips, of Goderich, spent the week-end at the home of their cous­ in, Mrs. Jos. Tiffin* Miss Bertha MacKay, of Stratford, spent the week-end here with Mrs, Hector MacKay. Mr. and Mrs, Thos, Inglis opened their home to this community Thurs­ day evening last for the benefit of Mr. Bill Stanley, who lost his hand a few weeks ago in the separator of the Inglis threshing machine. Nearly $100 was collected to assist 4n the purchase of a new hand. The evening was spent in cards and dancing. Lunch was served and a good time enjoyed by all. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Mitchell, of Wingham, visited on Sunday at the home of her sister, Mrs, John Purdon. Miss Olive Kennedy spent a few days last week with (Mrs. Basil Thompson of Ashfield. Mr, and' Mrs, Thompson have been working with her father, Mr. Arthur Moore, who is constructing a bridge in Ashfield. Mrs, Alec. Ferguson, of Culross, visited last week at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jas. Wilson. , Mrs. Battram, of Hamilton, is vis­ iting at the home of her brother-in- law, Mrs. Wm. Barbour. Mr, and Mrs, Donald Cameron of New York, and Mrs. Griffin, and Mrs. Norma Taylor and Eleanor of Toronto, visited last week with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Morrison. The ladies of the W.M.S. of the United Church held a very success­ ful tea at the home of Mrs. Dan Marfin last week'and at Mrs. Victor Emerson’s home this week. Jack McLean, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. McLean of the Post Office, was able to be brought to his home here : from Wingham Hospital on Sunday! and is making a splendid recovery. Mrs, Jack Wickstead, Miss Eunice Thornton and Miss Olive Scott, at­ tended the Annual Woman's Institute Convention at Harriston last week. Phone 271 BIG ENTERTAINMENT -BELGRAVE United Church Anniversary Very successful Anniversary serv­ ices were held in Knox United Church on Sunday, September 19th. The church was nicely decorated with flowers and good congregations were present both morning and evening. Rev. Mr. Burton of Clinton Ontario Street United Church was the special speaker at these services. Special music was given by the choir at the morning service and Misses Winnie Lane and Melda Lane sang a duet. At the evening service a male quar­ tette with George Jordan, Norman Keating, Goldie Wheeler and J. M. Coultes as members sang a selection. Miss Stella Nethery left for Sask­ atoon on Friday afternoon to resume her duties as teacher, after spending the f-ummer with her mother, Mrs. J. Nethery. Baier visited with Brussels and Wal­ ton friends one day last week. Mr. Clarns Hughdie and son Harr old, also Mr. Elmer and Harry Rinn and Gorden (McKenzie of Walton, visited at N. McNeil’s on Sunday. Mrs.t Hughdie returned with them after a week’s stay with Mrs. McNeil. ST. HELENS _ Mr and Mrs. Wilson Woods have returned from their wedding trip and are spending a few days with Mrs. R. J. Woods before leaving for their new home at Dundas. Other guests of Mrs. Woods included her daught­ ers, Mrs. Arnold Barbour of Fergus and Miss Tyson of Geraldton and her niece, Mis, ,Bruce Gammie of Flora, Miss Muriel Hall and Miss Peggy Stovcll of Toronto were week-end guests of Mrs. J? B. Rutherford. Mrs. George Stuart has returned from a motor trip to the coast. Mr. W. H. Ferguson, formerly of St. Helens and Miss Elizabeth Fer­ guson, of Toronto, were callers here recently. Mr, Fergsuon’s sisters, Miss Maggie and Miss Jennie Fer­ guson, were former teachers in the school here. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Carter and daughter, Marjory of Waldemar, were recent guests of Mr. A. G. Webb and Mr. and Mrs. E, W. Rice. Born—In the Wingham Hospital, on Sunday, Sept, 19th, to Mr. and Mrs. Lome Woods, a son, stillborn. The regular meeting of the Y.P.U. was held on Sunday evening. The Scripture lesson was read by Cuyler Ramage. The topic “Canada First— Is This, Christian?” was taken by Stanley Todd. Members of the Y.P.U. gathered at the home of Mrs. R. J. Woods Fri­ day evening to do honor to Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Woods. An ’ address I was read by Mr. Stanley Todd and the nevyly-weds were presented with a chesterfield table and electric lamp. Mr. and Mrs. Woods each made a fitting reply after which games were enjoyed under the leadership of Dor­ othy Miller and Stanley Todd. Lunch and the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” brought a pleasant evening to a close, Mr, and Mrs, Earl Swan and fam­ ily moved on Monday to the farm of his father, Mr. George Swan, in Ash* field. Ml and Mrs, Bannistet and child­ ren have moved here from Kincard­ ine.* Mr. Bannister is employed by Mr, Joy nt 'The girls of the Handicraft Club who went to London last week, are “receiving congratulations oh their success ion their exhibit in the pro­ ject “Clothes Closets Up-to-Date.” Laurine Milter was awarded second place, Annie Watson third, Vera Tay­ lor seventh, The latter with Miss El- eanor Wilson of Auburn, were tied for third, place in their demonstration on table setting. The girls are taking part in the exhibit and demonstration at Stratford on Wednesday.
