S. meeting of Knox Presbyterian Church was held in. the Sunday School room on Thurs­ day afternoon. The President, Mrs. J. R, Greig presided. The Christmas story from the Gospel of St. Luke was read by Miss Olive Scott and prayer was offered by Mrs, Walter Smillie. After a few items o'f busi­ ness had been dealt with, reports were heard from the secretary-treas­ urer and the secretaries of the diff­ erent branches of the work. Miss Scott was elected to preside for the nomination of officers for the ensuing year, the elections resulting as fol­ lows: Hon. Mrs. Jas. Barbour is suffering from a stroke, -which she took on Tuesday last. Mrs. B. McClenaghan was call­ ed to her at the home of Mr. Elwood Barbour on Friday and spent the week-end there. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Davidson visit­ ed on Sunday with Mr .and Mrs. Ed­ gar Gaunt and family of Marnoch. 1 he regular monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute will be held on Friday in the Hall. United Church Young People’s George Hetherington, one of the Vice-Presidents, had charge of the Y. P. S. of the. United Church on Fri­ day evening, Miss Irene Taylor read the Scripture lesson. Mrs. Alice Ait­ ken gave a talk on the topic “The Value of Drama in Religion”, speak­ ing of drama in the Bible and in the early Christian Church. The speaker stressed the necessity of sincerity and good and careful training-. Following the address, Rev. A. V. Robb led a discussion on the topic and also clos­ ed the meeting with prayer. Rev. D. K. Perrie Gave Address The Y.P.S. of Knox Presbyterian Church met in the Sunday school room, on Friday evening with the president, Donald Robertson, in charge. The Scripture lesson was read by Miss Vera McCracken, and Miss Jean Robertson, led in prayer. Rev. D. K. perrie, of Brussels ,who visited te Peace River District nine years ago was the guest speaker and brought an interesting message of the growth in population and church work since his return. There is now four stationed ministers the year round, one doctor, one nurse and two deaconesses, The young, peoples socities are especially interested-in the work in the Peace River. Rev. J. R. Mrs. Durnin Phillips, the president, presid­ ed over the interesting meeting. The roll call, My Childhood Memories of Christmas, brought forth many inter­ esting responses. Notes of apprecia­ tion for fruit were received from Mrs. Elwood Barbour, Mrs. G .McPherson and Mrs. Wright. The subject “Christ­ mas” was in charge of Mrs. Earl Dur­ nin who read an interesting paper on “The Origin of Christmas Celebra­ tions.” '“The Star of the East” was the title of an article read by Mrs. John Cameron. Laurine Miller read a Christmas poem and Mrs. W. A. Mill­ er an article on “The First Gentle­ man.” Mrs. Ewart McPherson, Mrs. Ed. Thom, Mrs. F. G. Todd and Mrs. Gordon McPherson were hostesses for the delicious lunch served, Mr. and Mrs. McKenzie Webb and family motored Gtmlph last week 1 and spent a few days Jat the Winter Fair. Many friends will be know that Rev. H. G. former minister of St. Whitechurch, who has seven years been the pastor of the Northville (Michigan) Presbyterian Church, has accepted a call to the Hibbing, Minnesota, Church, and will move to his new charge shortly with his wife and family. The regular meeting of the Y.P.U. was held on Sunday evening with the president, Miss Isobel Miller in the chair, Grace Weatherhead read the Scripture lesson and Mrs, Jansen fav* oredwith a solo.
