More Orillia Scrip Issued Orillia—About $3,000 town of Or­ illia scrip purchasing vouchers was is­ sued Friday from the relief office. When this second issue is made a total of approximately $4,150 - will have been issued. Information revealed that on Dec. 1 about $700 of’the first scrip issue of $1,150 was redeemed at a discount of one per cent. The gain to the town on the redeemed scrip was about $7. More than $661 was redeemed at the four Orillia banks and $35 worth was brought to the town office. In addi­ tion to discount of one per cent, the banks are making a service charge of one per cent. Minard, fireman of the boat, 'one of Seven to lose their lives in the sink­ ing of the boat. In-bringing in its verdict, however, the jury was of the opinion that the boat was properly stabilized when it left port. Dominion to Advance Money to Alberta Edmonton—The Dominion Govern­ ment will advance $480,000 to Alberta for a work-at-wages scheme for the unemployed, it whs announced by La­ bor Minister Cross. It will provide work for 1,500 men, The Federal Government will advance $240,000 for the project and loan Alberta a like sum. The money will be spent on public works, mostly highways, with wages at 30 cents an hour. Case Against Four Commissions Dismissed Toronto—Chief Justice H. E. Ross dismissed with costs the action of the Ontario Hydro-Electric Power Com­ mission against two former commis­ sioners, former Chief Engineer F. A. Gaby and I. 13. Lucas, former com­ mission solicitor for recovery of mon­ ey paid for reports on alleged anti­ hydro attacks. The action against Senator Meighen, C. Alfred Maguire, former commissioners, Gaby and Lu­ cas sought $4,553, the sum paid out to Toronto private detectives and a Chi­ cago law firm who had prepared the attacks. of the DISTRICT Appeal in Wiarton Robbery Charge Adrian Vanderyagt and Marjory Constable, principals in the Wiarton brewer’s warehouse robbery last July, have filed appeals at Osgoode Hall against their convictions. Vanderyagt also appealed against his conviction of carrying offensive weapons. He was given four years on each charge. He maintains that publicity given to his pictures before his identification was unfair and improper. Miss Con­ stable, who was sentenced to eighteen months, complains that the Trial Judge erred in admitting an alleged confession obtained from her with­ out warning that it would be used ag­ ainst her. The case was heard at Wal­ kerton. May Pave from Amberley to Kincardine Approval of. the Government’s ac­ tion in promising to pave a portion of the Blue Water Highway in Bruce County next year, was voiced in Kin­ cardine, on the retunn of Rfeeve J. D. MacLeod from a conference with the minister of highways. There is a pos­ sibility of paving the 12-mile stretch from Amberley on the Bruce-Huron boundary, to Kincardine, to be under­ taken in the spring of 1937. Expansion Tank Exploded The explosion of an expansion tank in the heating system at Slight’s Ser­ vice station Tuesday morning caused damage principally to the windows. Ferguson, of Walkerton, to the Green Hotel, in Lucknow, resulted ip charges being laid against the proprietress and Jack Thompson, the assistant at the hos­ telry. .At Magistrate Walker’s week­ ly police court, Mrs. Green pleaded guilty to a charge of having liquor il­ legally, and was fined $200 and costs, or an alternative of three months. Thompson pleaded guilty to having liquor in other than his residence and was assessed a total of $39.75. BELMORE It was with deep regret we learned of th sudden passing of Gordon Weir, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Weir, of Howick, Saturday afternoon. Rev. and Mrs. Raynor have organ­ ized a Young People’s Union, who took the service Sunday afternoon. The officers are: Mrs. Rev. Raynor, Jean Herd, Joe Tiffin, Lyle Fitch and Jack Ferguson.
