Wightman and they will visit with other relatives in this district for the next few days. Miss Edith McClenaghan of Bel­ grave, spent the week end here at the home of her uncle, Mr. Wm. Barbour. Mr. Jas. Morrison left on Monday to work for Mr. Ferguson of Amber­ ley. Mr. Thos. Inglis and his son, Jim of Howick visited one day last week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Davidson. Mr. Russel Ross returned from Wingham hospital on Thursday last, but is still in a weakened condition. Mr. and Mrs. Roy McCreight and children of Lucknow, visited on Sun- Gershom Johnston and Mr. and Mrs, Robert 1 union and Doreen and Mur­ iel visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Walker of E. Wawan- osh. Miss Bertha Mackay of Stratford,- spent the week end here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs, Hector Mac­ kay. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Beecroft and Florence and Ernest, also Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Kirk of Birmingham, Mich., and Mrs. Laura Creighton and Pearl and Thelma of Detroit, spent Sunday at the home of their parents, Mr, and Mrs. Andrew Kirk of Sea­ forth. The most of the maple syrup mak­ ers in this district pulled the spiles last week. This has been a very good season and most of those who worked at it, have laid by a good supply for the year. A very successful social evening was held in the United Church here on Friday last, when the young folks of St. Helen’s Church were here. They supplied a good program of musical numbers, and. Mr. E. W. Rice had charge of the topic, and Mr. Durnin told the Bible story. After the program, all repaired to the base­ ment, where games and contests were played under the guidance of Victor Emerson and Mr. Bert more. Lunch was served and cial half hour much enjoyed. Miss Hazel Hybine spent the week end at Mr. Thos. Henderson. Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Mr.; and Mrs. Oliver McBrien spent one day last week visiting with their mother, Mrs. McBrien and at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Laidlaw. Mr. Rhys Pollock was called to Guelph on, Saturday, where his wife is going through an operation for goitre. Her many friends wish her a successful recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Mitchell, and Mr. and- Mrs. Galbraith, and Dr. and Mrs. Crawford, all of Wingham, were callers at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Elliott on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Reid and Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Leggatt of Hamil­ ton, who were attending the funeral of the late Mr. Peter Hastings, spent the week end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Leggatt and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Leggatt of Hollingwood, who were here for the funeral, also visited at the home of Mr. John Gil­ lespie and other relatives here. STEWART WINGHAM MANAGER I _____ Morris Group Won Young Contest The president, Donald Robertson presided at the meeting of the Y.P.S. i of Knox Presbyterian church on Fri­ day evening. The scripture lesson was read by Stanley Moffatt, followed by prayer by the president. The topic from the Study Book, “Our Church” was taken by Miss Alba Mowbray and dealt with facts and figures in connection with the Presbyterian Church in Can­ ada. $ A violin selection by Stanley tard, accompanied by his sister, Isobel and a reading by Miss garet Turvey were enjoyed. The result of the contect was an­ nounced, Morris group winning by 40 points. Points were attained by attendance answering the roll and by taking part in the meetings. The contest has done much toward giving the members self confidence through taking part in the meeting unaided by notes and entering the discussions. The Turnberry group entertain the winners to a supper served in the school room the end of May. The Morris group supply the program. Mrs. S. N.
