STORE Danny Colquhoun didn't waste much time regaining his old 'form last Sunday night after he returned to the Clinton Mustang's line-up after a three game suspension. Here Danny sweeps around a London player on his way to his second goal of the game as the `Stangs downed London,11- 113. They lott to Hanover 5-2 on Tuesday night, (News-Record photo) Future Home Games Friday, Dec. 20 ..: Owen Sound at Clinton - 8:30 p.m. Mustangs win two more BY WM. G. COX Clinton's Junior "C" Mustangs treated their fans to some excellent hockey this past weekend resulting in their now being in a second place tie with Hanover Barons in the Group 2 division of the Central Junior "C" league. The team is only one point behind the division leading New Hamburg club; a situation that could change this week as Clinton travels to Hanover on Tuesday.. the win- ner in that game will take over the division lead, Clinton-11, Hanover-5 Last Friday at the Clinton Arepe, Viieber:e,,,,Meetenge, played what had to be some of the finest local hockey we have seen in recent years. The high score did not indicate the closeness of play, especially in the first two periods. Both teams came out skating and left no doubt in anyone's mind why they are near the top of the division standings. Bill Irwin opened the scoring at 6:06 of the first with wrising slap shot from the right point set up by Neil Colquhoun. The Barons came storming back to challenge Clinton at every turn and a sparse but boistrous home town crowd enjoyed ex- tremly fast end to end action, The period ended in a 3 to 2 Clinton lead, with much of the credit going to goalkeeper Gary Yeoman who turned in a fine performance for the Mustangs, facing 38 shots during the game, many from close in, There was no letup on either side when the teams returned for the second period, but superior defensive work on the Clinton side began to show, as their lead increased to 7-3. In the third Weber kept his team moving and checking, con- sistently beating the Hanover players to the puck. The score ended 11 to 5, but no Baron player need be ashamed of his performanee, as they displayed a fine team effort. Returning after a questionable three game suspension, left-winger Danny Colquhoun led Mustang scoring with three goals. Tallying twice each were Paul Kelly, Neil COlquhoun, and John Mommersteeg. Singles went to Jamie Thompson and Bill Irwin. Hanover scoring was divided between Tim Moran, Oliver Van Horne, Dave Mercey, Paul Lahn and Glen Wendt, Worthy of mention was the excellent performance turned in by number 12, Randy Millar, who contributed• three assists and was very affective mith.ihisti tenacious checking and hard skating style of play. Clinton-12, London-3, It was a different style of hockey on Sunday night when the Mustangs met the 'less talented but rougher London team. London, which is in fifth spot in the standings, came out with the obvious game plan of attempting to check the Clinton players into making mistakes, and slow the game down. But the fast skating home team was hard to catch and built up a 5-0 lead before London finally scored in the second period. The Mustangs certainly did not back down from their op- ponents, outhustling them in the corners and showing much more sophistication in executing their plays.. Clinton's refusal to change their style kept the game quick and ex- citing. It was again a small crowd that cheered the home team to a 12-3 victory when the final buzzer sounded. At several points during the game a few London players decided they needed a lesson in fisticuffs as well as hockey, and always the good sports and being considerate of their losing opponents, Danny Colquhoun and Zeke Fremlin were kind enough to oblige. Mike Anstett Was• the out- standing player on the ice, 'skating and checking hard, escoripg. one ,goal and- adding four assists.Othe'r Clinton marksmen were Perri Jutzi, Neil Colquhoun, and Barry Lane, each with two goals. John Graham, Danny Colquhoun, Paul Kelly, Steve Cook and Randy Millar got one goal each. The highest praise must go to the Mustang players for their fine showing last weekend. every player contributed to a great team effort. Small home town crowds 'at both games was the only disappointing factor. Hockey "Quote of the Week" "I really don't care if I score, as long as the team scores" - Mike Anstett, centre (spoken like a true sport...from the penalty box - Dec. 15/74.)
