Mrs. Harry Arthur spent a
couple of days last week with

and other friends in the village.

Sorority to help mark 100th

halter) for $5,200 at the recent Morrlafton Holstein Dispersal held at Shore Sales Arena Nov.

met for 'their annual Christmas
party in the Sunday school
room of the church and were

The presentation of stars
took place first red star was
given for repeating the purpose,

and Lorie Cartwright.
Second year Blue Star girls
repeated the Beatitudes and
the 23rd Psalm. Joanne Slater,
Wendy Powell, Janice Deer,
Carol Seers 'and Marilyn Ar-
chambault all received their
First Blue Star.
Third year, First Gold Stars
were presented fdr 85 percent
church attendance and these
went to Vickey Powell, Anita
Hallam, Patti McDowell,
Nancy Verbeek, Tracy Meehan,
Debbie Cunningham and
Lynda Cunningham.
KNOX UCW
The United Church Women
of Knox United Church held
their annual Christmas
meeting , with Mrs. Maurice
Bean leading and Mrs. Norman
Wightman at the piano. Mrs.
Bean's theme was a Christian
Woman's Christmas.
Several Carols were sung in-
terspersed with Bible passages
referring to the Christmas
season, A skit On Preparing for
Christmas was done by Mrs,
Donald Haines, Mrs. Gordon
Gross, Mrs. Norman McDowell
and Mrs. Peter Verbeek,
President Mrs. Gerald
McDowell welcomed all to the
meeting and thanked all who
had taken part, Mrs. Garnet
Potter gave a reading, A Christ-
mas Prayer. ,
• The offering was received by
Mrs. Jack Armstrong and Mrs.
Beth Lansing and dedicated
with prayer by Mrs, Bean, The
meeting was in the charge of
the Executive,
ACW MEET
The December meeting of the
Anglican Church Women of St,
Mark's Church Auburn was
held last week at the home of
Mrs. ,Thomas Haggitt. The
Hostess opened the meeting
with the carol, 0 Little Town of
Bethlehem,
Mrs, Donald Cartwright gave
the ,scripture lesson from the
gospel of St. Luke, Mrs. Elmer
Trommer read an article on
Christmas Legends. Mrs. Celia
Taylor gave the topic, Christ-
mas in Australia,
Thanks was expressed by
Mrs, Thomas Haggitt of St.
Mark's A,C.W,; Mrs. Wilfred
Sanderson of Presbyterian
W.M.S.; and Mrs. Lloyd Barth
for the Westfield group,
The Presbyterian Woman's
Missionary Society held their
Christmas meeting at the home
of Mrs. Frances Clark. The
president, Mrs, Wilfred Sander-
son gave the call to worship
and welcomed the guests and
members.
The hymn- Hail to the Lord's
Anointed was followed by a
candlelighting service led by
Mrs. Roy Daer. She was
assisted by Mrs. Eleanor Brad-
nock, Miss Minnie Wagner and
Mrs, John Hallam,
A reading, There was ' no
room for them in the Inn was
given by Mrs. Frank Raithhy.
Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock sang
the solo, Dear Little Stranger,
accompanied by Mrs. Donald
Haines,
The guest speaker, Mrs.
Oliver Anderson gave an in-
spiring Christmas message on
the theme, It Is His Day, based
on Isaiah 9:6 and 7 verses.
Readers were Mrs., Donald
Haines, Mrs. Beth Lansing,
Mrs. Wilfred Sanderson, Mrs,
Thomas Haggitt and Mrs,
William Berry,
Mrs, Bradnock thanked Mrs.
Anderson and on behalf of the
Society presented her with a
gift.
A short business meeting
followed. Miss Minnie Wagner
read the minutes and Mrs.
Frances Clark gave the finan-
cial statement showing that the
Auburn group had met their
allocation for Missions.
Plans were made for the next
meeting to be held on .January
15 and it was announced that
the annual meeting of Huron
Presb,vterial would be held on
January 8 at Seaforth,

On .Tuesday, November 26,
Zeta Onega chapter of Beta
Sigma Phi held a meeting at
the home of Grenda Rutledge
in Clinton,
Following our opening ritual
the roll call was taken and the
secretary's and treasurer's
reports were given, Linda Bell
read a letter she received from
the foster child in Kenya. The
social chairman, Brenda
Rutledge reported on the
Christmas party held Dec. 7 at
the White Carnation,
The Centennial committee
sent us a letter concerning put-
ting signs at the four highways
leading into Clinton indicating
the existence of the sorority in
the community. It,, was also
mentioned ' that the sorority
could have a group picture
taken and put in the Centen-
nial book. These motions were
both passed.

Explorers
Luann opened the meeting
with the purpose, motto and
hymn. Roll call was answered
by a present. The collection was
taken up by Lori Hayter and
dedicated. The treasurer's and
secretary's reports were read.
Business followed.
They practised the play and
Lori led in prayer. Luann
closed the meeting and the
members then went out and
delivered gifts and sang carols.
Concert
The Christmas concert will
be held in the township hall on
Monday, December 23.
This past Sunday was White
Gift Sunday with money going
to the School for the Retarded
in Goderich. Next Sunday,
December 22 will be the special
Christmas Church Service in
Varna and Goshen.

program for the evening 'on
Jewelry. Marg invited David
Anstett to be the speaker for
the evening. Mr. Anstett
showed many lovely gems and
his beautiful custom designs.
Following the adjournment
of the meeting, they repeated
the closing ritual and Mizpah
benediction.
With 21 members present the
seventh meeting of Beta Sigma
Phi was held at the home of
Gayle Wise.
The sorority opening ritual
was repeated followed by roll
call, secretary's and treasurer's
reports were given.
The Christmas party was
held at the White Carnation on
Dec. 7, and a good time was
had by all.
A picture of the sorority will
be taken at the next meeting for
the Centennial Book,
Ann Adams brought up the
possibility of Friendly Ven-
turing in Bayfield. It was left
with Joanne Bullen to see if
she could grid enough interest
to start a new chapter in the
village,
The cultural program for the
evening was on Conversation.
Laurie Berry had the program
and gave a very thought
provoking speech on the sub-
ject.
The meeting was concluded
by repeating our closing ritual
and Mizpah benediction.
Following the meeting, San-
dra Westerhaut sold raffle
tickets on a Christmas tree
made of teasle. Joanne Bullen
was lucky enough to win the at-
tractive tree,
A lovely lunch was served
and a social time concluded our
meeting.
