lounge has undergone a face lift
with fire resistant ceilings and
new light fixtures added. Out-
side is a 60 car parking lot, lan-
dscaping and a small addition
to house the new boiler and
electrical systems,
For the last three weeks the
ice plant has been in operation
with the ice surface reported as
excellent.
Curling stones and equip-
ment have been purchased by
the committee, When the club
liquor license is Approved,
lounge furnishings will be ob-
tained,
During the past week 64
curlers from Hensall used the
facilities and will continue
regular curling each Monday
for the season, Central Huron
Secondary School Curling Club
plan to curl one afternoon each
week for the season. Goderich
Psychiatric Hospital Staff
Curlers curl Wednesday last
draw.
Tuesday, Nov. 19, a meeting
to establish the club executive
and prepare further
scheduling was held.
Interested curlers are

industry is at. Vanastra?" With
some scouting I have found in
Manufacturing alone Vanastra
industry employs
proximately 145 people,
Following are the Vanastra
Manufacturing Companies:
Bayfield Boat Yard. Ltd. em-
play 32 persons with their head
office at Vanastra in Building
22, The company is jointly
owned by four parties. The
president is Ted Gozzard, vice-
president, Don Hart, vice-
president Gary Ferguson and
secretary-treasurer Jan Poz-
zard, Bayfield Boat Yard Ltd,
builds the Bayfield 23 and the
Bayfield 30 luxury sailboats,
Rathwell Central Machining
owned by Edgar and Steve
Rathwell employs two persons
with their head office at
Vanastra. This company does
production machining as well
as custom machining.
Canadian Fabricated
Products (division of American
Motors), head office Stratford
are presently using the former
Physical Education Building
for warehousing. I was unable
to contact any personnel of the
Company at Vanastra, but I am
under the impression they in-
tend to begin some production
work.
In Building 37, the former
boiler plant, Feranco Steel Ltd.
are presently preparing their
facilities. Owner George Ferko
plans to employ four to five
persons in the shop and two to
hrt.‘e people in his office. Mr.
"erko stated, "We will be
bricating and erecting struc-
i al steel for buildings as well
custom steel fabricating".

Kaufman Footwear Inc. are
located in Building 55 at
Vanastra. They employ 23 per-
sons who manufacture
snowmobile boots and casual
wear. In a month they begin
production of Jiffy slippers for
men. The head office is in Kit-
chener. Plant co-ordinator is
Lloyd Koehler. A spokesman
for Kaufman Footwear said
they are pleased with their
Vatiastra branch,
In building 10, the former
Food Service building, is Huron
Accoustics who produce
speliker enclosures, They ern:
ploy 43 persons with their head
office in Vanastra.
Shareholders of Huron Ac-
coustics are: president - Mr.
Dresch; secretary-treasurer,
Mr. W. Schneider; general
manager, Mr. Klopsch.
In the former hanger is Clin-
ton Tube Ltd., a Division of
Barton Tube Ltd. who employ
18 persona. They are
fabricators of steal tubing
which involves bending and
punch press operations. The
head office is in Burlington,
and the plant manager is Mr.
Vandyke of RR 5, Clinton,
Archer's Farm Sales and Ser-
vice are located in Building 103
with their head office at
Vanastra. Russ Archer is the
owner. They manufacture hog
pens and stabling as well as
being distributors for ven-
tilation and stable cleaners.
They are a dealer for silo
loaders and feeding systems.
Archer's also build new barns
and renovate old barns, Fifteen
to 22 employees work at Ar-
cher's Farm Sales and Service,
L.R. Oesch, Custom Wood-
working, is also located in
Vanastra and have six em-
ployees. Mr. Oesch, the owner,
stated his factory makes odd
size wood storm windows,
house sash, cabinets, vanities
and custom built kitchens. "If
it's made of wood we make it."
is the motto of the company.
Home renovations are also of-
fered by Mr. Oesch's company.
Curling Club
At Vanastra, the curling club
is now into it s first season af-
ter a shut-down of four years.
The Recreation Committee
have supervised renovations
with fiew carpet throughout the
lower floor level. The upper

Beta Sigma Phi held its an-
nual pledge dinner at the home
of Sandra Westerhaut. With 21
present, the opening ritual was
repeated followed by Marg
Dobson giving the sorority
grace.
After a delicious meal, they
had their business meeting with
roll call, secretary's and
treasurer's reports. The
corresponding secretary, Linda
Bell, reported that due to rising
costs, the cost of our foster
child will rise by $3 a month
starting the first of the year.
Gayle Wise reported on the
success of the Hallowe'en
dance and the good time that
was had by all. Service chair-
man, Marilyn Hoy, reported
that the Arthritis drive that
was held with the Kinettes was

for an addition to the Huron-
Perth regional, assessment of-

James Snow, prcvincial
minister of government ser-
vices, unveiled a memorial
plaque and took part in ribbon-
cutting ceremonies at the
$225,000 addition.
The addition, which also
houses the Huron County
children's aid society, was built
by Gotten Construction Ltd.,
Kitchener.

Lodge L1842 met on Thursday
evening Nov. 14 in the hall for
their monthly meeting.
Business was discussed, and
it was decided to give
donations to Huronview, $50;
to the John Robarts School for
the deaf, $50; to the Salvation
Army, $50; to the Queen
Elizabeth School in Goderich,
$50; to the Children's Aid, $50.
There is to be a new stove
bought for the hail, and Family
Night will be held on November
30th.

The program for the evening
was "What is Love?" The girls
were fortunate to have Rev.
Oestreicher as the speaker, He
gave the biblical story, of Ruth
as the oldest and one of the
most beautiful love stories of
all times. He summed up by
saying "Love is many things to
many people and true concern
for another human being."
The candle light pledge
ritual was held welcoming five
new pledges; Carol Campbell,
Hensall; Carol Fisher,
Bayfield; Michele Hansen,
Goderich; Joan Westerhaut
and Laurie Berry from Clinton.
They also welcomed Audrey
Kemp from a chapter in British
Columbia.
After the welcoming, the girls
were each given a lovely rose.
The evening was concluded by
repeating the closing ritual
then dessert and coffee were
served.
Retarded Ass'n meets
Common interests were
discussed at the recent board
meeting of the South Huron
Association for the Mentally
Retarded when members of the
Lambton Association were
guests.
The main topic of discussion
was the, pew home being plan-
ned in 'Tedford for youn‘
people. The young people (rob)
this new home would use the
facilities of the ARC workshop
in Das13wood.
Martin Van Raay, chairman
of YACHMR, presented a
cheque for $1,500, the proceeds
from the Skate-a-thon held last
May.
The board discussed day care
centres in the neighbouring
municipalities and the
feasibility of seeking methods
of co-operation to help the hen-
dicappeci children through
these centres,
Progress on the brief to the
boards of education in Huron
and Lambton and the two
County Councils was reported.
