Thank°Hering Meeting
The October Thankoffering
meeting of Hensall UCW was
held Monday evening in the
Church. Anita Cook acted as
chairman and welcomed
everyone, Sue Ann Shroecler of
Dashwoocl entertained by
singing two lovely solos and ac-
companying herself on her
guitar,
Lois Shapter presented a
very meaningful devotional
discussing three little words,
kindness, friendliness, and sym-
pathy, words which are not
used in our society enough
these days. Several hymns were
sung with Helen Goddard ac-
companying on the piano..
Grace Drummond gave a
reading entitled "A shadow on
the blind", and introduced the
guest speaker, Mrs. Betty Car-
dno of Seaforth, who showed
very colourful slides and corn,
mentated very thoroughly on
her trip in March this year to
Mexico.
President Kay Mock presided
for the business portion of the
meeting, and opened with a
Thanksgiving poem. The
minutes of the May meeting
were read and approved.
Correspondence was read
which consisted of two letters
of thanks, one from Chiselhurst
UCW, and the other from Jane
Davidson in appreciation for
the donation sent to Father
Abraham in India. Helen Scene
gave the treasurer's report, and
Pearl Erratt reported for the
supply and welfare committee,
and announced that there will
be a bale packed on October 22.
Articles are' to be left at the
Church before that date. She
also read letters of thanks from
places where the bales were.

Ann Brock reported for the
Social Functions Committee
and announced the banquet to
be held at Brucefield school on
October 17. Anita Cook repor-
ted on the friendship and
visitation Committee, Sadie
Hoy reported on the flower
committee and also announced
that the United Church Obser-
ver is going up in price in
January 75, It was voted that
the UCW be responsible to sell
the United Church calenders
this year, as there is no youth
gioup.
The Hensall Legion Ladies
Auxiliary's meeting was held
on Tuesday evening in the
Legion Hall with president
Wanda McClinchey presiding.
Past president Mildred
Chalmers installed a new mem-
ber, Joan Allan,
Iva Reid presented past
president Mildred with a gift in
appreciation for her acting as
president for two years. Mem-
bers _decided to help canvass for
the C.N.I.B, and also decided
to have the money doll draw
sometime in December.
Sports officer, Iva Reid gave
e sports report and announced
events coming up in the future,
The mystery prize was won by
Iva Reid and the guessing prize
by Mable Munn,
Personals
Miss Muriel I-laymen of
Surrey, England returned to
her home after visiting with her
sister and her husband, Mr.
and Mrs. Carl Payne.
Mrs. Rita Van Wieren has
returned home from a pleasant
three week vacation spent in
Europe.
CNIS campaign
Eric Luther, campaign chair-
man for the Canadian National
Institute for the Blind, advises
the Hensell and area campaign
for funds will be conducted
during the month of October.
A door-to-door canvass will
be conducted in Hensall and a
mailing campaign in the
surrounding area. Presently we
have 83 blind people in the
County of Huron. Last year our
campaign totalled $900.43 and
we have set a target of $1,000
this year. Please support this
most important project.
Unit IV - UCW
Unit IV Hensall UCW met
on October 2 'with 24 members
present. Mrs. James McAllister,
who chaired the meeting,
opened with Psalm 19, "The
heavens declare the .glory of
God and the Heaven's proclaim
his handiwork", followed by
prayer. Miss Amy Laramie read
Scripture from Luke and Mrs.
Torn Sherritt commented on
the Devotional which she
closed with a Thanksgiving
poem and prayer.
Mrs. C. Britton and Mrs.
Eric Luther brought interesting
excerpts from the fall Regional
meeting held in Dashwood on
October 2. The offering was
taken by Mrs: Dowson and
dedicated -by Mrs. McAllister;
and Mrs. Tom Sherritt gave the
treasurer's report.
Arrangements were made by
Mrs. Earl Rowe for the lunch
for the general meeting. Volun-
teer helpers and pie makers for
H pledge, Seven members Were
present to answer to the roll
call which is the type of
reference file they have
chosen,
Dues were paid and
various other business waS
discussed, A joint demon-
stration on packing suitcases
was done and home assign-
ments 'for the next meeting are
to work on record book and
reference file, also 'to find
something which you think
would be interesting to discuss'
at the next meeting,

St. Pettis Anglican Church'
was beautifully decorated with
fruits, vegetables and flowers
for the service of harvest
Thanksgiving, The Rev. G.A..
Anderson conducted the' ser-
vice. 'The theme of the sermon
was ""Thanksgiving". Mrs.
Roland McCaffery of Exeter
sang "i3less this house" And
"Abide with me".
The St. Paul's orchestra
played before the service, and
alst? led in the singing of the
fein\iliar Thanksgiving hymns.
Following the service, lunch
was'served by ,the young people
of the Church.
