MYRNA'S A
SINGING BEAUTY
People often ask how Myrna Lorrie can be so beautiful and
also sing so well. The answer is that Myrna began singing when
she was just a little toddler and the beauty, she says, is in the
eyes of the beholder. Myrna's from Thunder Bay, Ont., and
went into show business before she was a teenager. Her first
big hit was Are You Mine, which topped the country music
charts, and which is still one of her favorites. Myrna shares co-
host duties on CBC television's Countrytime show out of Halifax
this season with Mike Graham. Countrytime is seen each
Thursday night at 8:30 p.m.

Special branch
new crime
series on Globa
SPECIAL BRANCH is a highly
successful crime drama series for
Thames Television in Great
Britain, which focuses attention on
those little-known heroes the
security police. The central charac-
ter is Detective-Chief Inspector
Akan Craven, played by George
Sewell. Craven is a tough long-
serving policeman who started on
the beat but whose ambition was to
be in Special Branch. He is perhaps
typical of those men whose jobs take
them down mean streets and into
evil situations, but who are not evil
or mean themselves. Craven is a
'man never to shirk responsibilities
.„ a tenacious cop who works on his
hunches, but who also has a respect
for playing it "by the book". The
cases he works on involve the coun-
try's security, but they involve far
more than spies, secrets and
microfilm The human element is
also of prime importance, for the
work of the Special Branch involves
the protection of people, both the in-
nocent and the not-so-innocent.
George Sewell, who plays the part
of Craven, was brought up in Lon.
don's East End and has probably'
known many villains typical of
those he is out to catch in the
character of Craven. Since then, he
has been, a Merchant Seaman, a
courier ias he speaks fluent French
and German) and became an actor
when he was discovered by English
director Joan Littlewood. He is
rugged and tough ... he had to be to
stand up to completing a one-hour
film on location every ten days.
This was the schedule for SPECIAL
BRANCH, which was made entirely
on film, shot on location.
The series is produced by Geof-
frey Gilbert, the executive producers
are Lloyd Shirley and • George
Taylor, and the script editor is Ian
Black,
