Gleason characters, including Reggie Van Gleason,
The Poor Soul, Joe the Bartender and Ed Norton. ,
.portrayed not by Art Carney, but by Julie Andrews.
Burlesque begins the show, as Jackie plays the
Top Banana and Julie a stripper. . . Together, as
the title of the show suggests, Jackie and Julie ex-
plore the Gleason mystique and the history of a type
of entertainment that is now rare on today's
television. Together they sing "What Do the Simple
Folks Do", from the musical "Camelot", and Julie
brings back Eliza Doolittle of "My Fair Lady" for a
production number which also features the Paddy
Stone Dancers. Alone, Jackie performs the show-
stopping "Take Me Along" from his Broadway hit
and• "Trouble" from "The Music Man". The hour
ends as it began, on the deserted stage of the theatre
with a poignant moment of drama.
