Berean Unit
The Berean 'unit of the UCW'
met on Septernbee 40 in', the
church parlor. The meeting
opened with prayer and a
. reading on the theme, "Best
picture of God," by the
president, Mrs. Ena Howatt. It
was followed by a hymn with
.Mrs. Harry Durnin at the
piano.
The 'Scripture was read by
Mrs. L. Lyon, followed by
meditation and prayer by the
president.
The minutes of the last
meeting were read by the
secretary Mrs. B. Shobbrook
and a thank-you note was
received from the family of
Bert Brunsdon.
The Fall Thankofferitig will
be held on Sept. 30th with
Lavonne Ballagh Wingham
as the guest speaker. The sup
ply secretary; Mrs. Durnin is
to set a date for quilting.
Rollcall was answered by 13
members and five visitors with
"where I would like to travel."
Happy birthday was sung' to
Mrs. Robinson and the
business part closed with a
reading, "Summer days are
slipping by," and the Lord's
Prayer.
The study period was taken
by Mrs. Ida Townsend and
Mrs. Harry Durnon with the
topic being pictures and com-
mentary by Dorothy Little. A
hymn was sung, and Mrs. Dur-
nin_pve several readings.
Dorothy Little showed
seasonal pictures beginning
,with Autumn, and the meeting
closed with a reading by Mrs.
Durnin, and the benediction by
Mrs. Townsend. Lunch was
served by Mrs. Laura Saunder-
cock and Mrs. Bert Shobbrook.
News of interest included the
Central Huron Regional Rally
of the UCW which will be held
in Egmondville Church on Oc-
tober 8th.
Women's Institute
The Women's Institute
meeting was held in the Lon-
desboro Hall on Wednesday
Sept. 11th, and the meeting
opened with Mrs. E. Wood at
the piano.
The president, Mrs. Harry
Tebbutt, welcomed all, and the
roll call was answered by "an
unusual event of my school
days." The minutes of the last
meeting were read, as was the
financial statement. Correspon-
dence included thank-yous
from Mrs. Annie Leitch, the
family of Bert Brunsdon, and

An invitation• was received
from,the Walton W.I. to attend
their meeting on Sept. 18, and
the Huron County Rally to be
at Brussels on Oct. 7th.
Voting delegates are Mrs. Eric

The ladies decided to pur-
chase a wreath for memorial
Day at Blyth. Danny Lear
played the guitar and sang two
solos.
Mrs. E. Wood thanked the
W.I. for the gift she and her
husband received on their wed-
ding anniversary on August 28,
and Mrs. Arie Duizer was
presented with a gift on the oc-
casion of her anniversary on
, Sept 11th.
Mrs. Reg Lawson, Tweed-
smuir curator, reported she and
Mrs. Lloyd Pipe had attended a
workshop at Ailsa Craig in
August. Mrs. Pipe suggested
that as many as possible have a
log in their homes.
Mrs. Fothergill, who is con-
venor of the education commit-
tee, read some school time
autographs, some exam
howlers, and a mortifying
mistake. The collection was
received, and the ladies decided
to pay Mrs. Robinson's mem-
bership in the Huronview L.A.
A suggestion that the W.I.
donate a scholarship to Hullett
Central Public School will be
further discussed at the Oc-
tober meeting. which will also
entertain the grandmothers,
the Cheerio Club. and the Blyth
and Tiger Dunlop W.I.'s.
40th Anniversary
The family of Arie and Tri
Duizer honored their parents
last Saturday evening on the
occasion 'of their 40th wedding
anniversary.
A delicious meal, served by
the Londesboro UCW, was held
at the church. It was followed
by a social evening at their
home. Relatives, friends and
guests were present from Lon-
don, Woodstock, Dorchester,
Blyth, Auburn, Clinton, and
Londesboro.

We are sorry to report that
Willis Bromley is a patient in
Clinton Hospital, after he had
a severe heart attack last
Friday. We wish him a speedy
recovery.
Mrs. Elsie Youngblut moved
into an apartment in Clinton
last Thursday, after she sold
Julie Bowie.
John Cartwright celebrated
his seventh birthday on Sunday
at the home of his grand-
mother, Mrs. Mae Rinn of
