Lynne Gordon joins Global News team
Consumer affairs expert Lynne Gordon is joining
Global News as Consumer Affairs Editor, it was an-
nounced today. She will appear nightly on the
Global News Hour.
Born in New York, but now a Canadian citizen,
Lynne attended the Columbia University School of
Journalism, and has had extensive experience in
theatre, radio, television, advertising and public
relations. She joined CKEY Radio, Toronto, in
1968 where she broadcast feature interviews with
well-known figures in politics, education, science,
business and entertainment.
She then joined' the News Department of CKEY
where, as a neivs reporter, she covered stories
ranging from mdrders and court cases to education
and finance. In August 1972 Lynne created the
CKEY Consumer Desk. The Consumer Desk is
aired daily following the news at 1:00, 6:00 and
11:00 p.m. and it consists of clear concise 4onsumer
reports lasting three or four minutes. Lynne has
been overwhelmed by the response to her show from
her audience, businessmen and government of-
ficials.
In 1971, Lynne joined CFTO-TV in Toronto as a
.Weekly reviewer and commentator for "Toronto
Today" evaluating films, stage productions, books
and restaurants in the city.
Lynne is continuing to expand her career into
other fields; McClelland and Stewart are publishing
her book on consumer affairs early in 1975, she
writes for Homemakers' magazine and she will have
a syndicated column in the Toronto Sun, starting in
the middle of September. She lectures frequently to
schools and business groups where her services are
much in demand. Her television series on Global —
BEWARE, WITH LYNNE GORDON — will be
seen this fall Sundays at 6:00 p.m. '
Lynne is excited at the prospect of her new role as
part of the GLOBAL NEWS team. As well as
straight consumer reporting, she will have the op-
portunity to interview people concerned in all
aspects of consumer affairs, which she feels is a very
broad subject. Lynne's ' concern is with the
dissatisfied consumer who has invested money or
emotions and been disappointed in their expec-
tations.
She will give practical help to the consumer, who,
until recently, was unfamiliar with methods of com-
parison shopping, checking warranties or getting
compensation for unsatisfactory products or ser-
vices. "I show the consumer how to help himself',
says Lynne. "Audience response has proved that
there is a great need for this type of reportint".
