The first game of the series was played in Clinton last Saturday afternoon. Clinton WOO it by a close •tg-tt score. Hagersville opened the scoring in the first inning as they made it 2.0 from two hits. The Juveniles only got one run in the first when Greg Butler came home off a double from Colquhoun. The Juveniles rallied for six big runs in the third off hits from Victor 'Kennedy, Dan Colquhoun, Ray Burns, and Bill Irwin making the score .7-2, There was no more scoring At the trap shoot at the Vanastra Gun Club on August 28, Bill Stewart of Goderich and Dave Wellington tied for first place with 23 hits ou t of 25 targets. Bob Orr of Bayfield was next with 22 hits, and Wayne Smith of Exeter was third with 21. Hagersville went ahead 11.10 in the eighth scoring two more off two hits and more errors. Clinton went scoreless in theeighth. In the -ninth, Steve Cook walked and with two out, of Clinton, Morris Sauve of Goderich, and Murry Grigg of Clinton. At the skeet shoot last Satur- day, Mery Batkin of Clinton and Tom Allen of Londesboro were tied for top spot with 23 strikes each, They were followed by Tom Jardin of Auburn and Glen Moagk of Bornholm with 22 each, Ernie Marshall of Mit- chell with 21, Harrison Soho& of Zurich with 18, and Ashley Gilbert of Goderich with 15. mile was in 212.3 and the payoff was $16.80. At the Clinton Raceway Sun- day afternoon, the first race winner was Miss Direct Baker owned by Lorne Tyndall, and driven by Frank MacDonald, both of Clinton. The mile was in 2:10.3 and the payoff was $8.20. Out of the money was Sunicrest Irene owned by William James, London and driven by Dennis Jewitt. The second race winner was Carry On Syl owned by Bruce Erskine and Wilfred Denomme, Goderich with Gord Pullman driving, The mile wds in 2:09,3 and the payoff was $5.10. Second in the third race was Crimson Van owned by Bruce Volland, Goderich and driven by Dennis Jewitt. Third was MacDonald came up with another important hit scoring Cook to tie the game. Later with the bases loaded, Ray Burns hit a single scoring MacDonald to win the game 12-11, Clinton outhit Hagersville 14-8. Colquhoun pitched for Clinton going all nine innings, and striking out 10. Clinton polished off the series last Sunday when they bombed Hagersville 22-4. Kennedy and Butler came across the plate for Clinton in the first as they took an early 2- 0 lead. Hagersville made it 3-2 in the bottom half of the fif- teenth off no hits. In the second and third Clin- ton put it all together as they scored 11 more runs off hits from just about everyone on the team. Hagersville got their fourth and final run in the fourth inning off two hits. Clinton made it 18.4 in the fifth off hits from Cook, Butler, Colquhoun, and Irwin. The Juveniles got three more in the eighth when Kennedy, Anstett, and Burns came home.Mike Anstett crossed the plate in the ninth inning making the final score 22-4. Don MacDonald pitched for Clinton. He gave up seven hits and struck out nine. Clinton now plays the winner of Fort Erie, Bowmanville, and Perth series for the All-Ontario championship. On Monday, Sept. 2nd a corn" bination Clinton and Goderich team played in the annual Lon. don Celtic Labour Day Tour- nament. Eight teams took part with two sections of four teams, Each team played against the three other teams in their sec- tion in 15 minutes each way games. The top two teams ad- vanced to the semi-final. In their first game, Huron met First Division Sarnia Dante and held them to a scoreless tie. Huron then played Third Division Leo's Distributing and won, easily/ by 2-0 on goals scored by Goderich's Brian Allan. The Germans opened the scoring early in the first half but Huron settled down and equalized on a goal by Brian Jewitt. Huron went ahead shortly before half time when Charlie Lipp scored from a direct free kick 25 yards out. The Germans equalized from a corner kick with only seconds to go in the first half. In the second half, the powerful German machine took complete command and they added two more goals to make the final score 4-2. Huron finished with a 1-1.1 record as did Sarnia Dante but Sarnia advanced to the semi- final by virtue of a better goal average. 0-4JimsrioN NEWS-RECORD, THRMSDAYt SEPTgMBER 5, 074 Juveniles advance to finals Seaforth golfer Ken Doig returned last week from suc- cessful play in the Canadian Amateur golf championship and the Willingdon Cup finals in Winnipeg. Ken was fourth ranking golfer in the Amateur with a 289 aggregate; behind winner Doug Roxburgh at 280, Gary Cowan at 284 and American Charles Gibson at 287. Ken's Ontario team finished third in Willingdon Cup play and he was second highest scoring golfer on the team. He was second highest from On- tario in the Amateur as well.
