up to 40 feet into trees. Here Tom Lobb points to a

The first Goderich Township
picnic was held et the
Holniesville school on Sunday
August IS, In spite of the good
combining weather and the
other events being held, over
100 people were out to take part
in the well-planned afternoon.
At 2 p.m. the mothers and
daughters took up their battle
stations and the mothers and
grandmothers showed the
young girls that there was no
doubt they haven't played ball
for sometime, Give us a bit of
practise girls and we'll try
again. The fathers and sons
then had a turn for the men to
find out just how unfit they are
too. Needless to say, players
and spectators enjoyed them-
selves,
The Recreation Committee
didn't let us rest after the ball
game. Races, a relay and a tug-
of-war were held for the
younger set while the mothers
hammered nails, The winner of
the nail hammering was Flora
Hesk with four bangs (had to
be luck). Gerry Harris and. Ber-
nice McillWain tied for second
with five whacks, Ken Harris
and Art Hoggart were the best
at the log sawing with 23
seconds. Patricia Harris had
the best arm for throwing a
ball,
The winners of the races'
were: five and under - Angels
Qrr, Allen Young, Barb
Hoggart; 6,7,8 girls Heather
Harris, Janene Mayhew, Cathy
Franks, boys - Scott Harris,
Ken Hoggart, Tim Mayhew;
9,10,11,12, girls - Karen Jantzi,
Laurie Harris, Catherine. Orr, •
boys - Murray Hoggart, Robbie
Blake, Charlie Wise;
13,14,15,16, girls Patricia
Harris, Jackie Brand, Dianna
Brand, boys - Lloyd Jantzi,
John Hoggart, Gary Tebbutt.
There was nothing lacking in
the way of food and all had
plenty to eat before we left for
home and chores. If you missed
the picnic and the fun, please
don't miss sending your form
from the Recreation Committee
to Gerry Ginn by August 28th.
