Ed Davies won first place in the senior division of the hor- seshoe pitching competition held last Sunday at Lucan. Congratulations Ed. Little Miss Julie Daer is a patient in Alexander Marine and General Hospital, Goderich. Mrs. Bernice Glousher of Clinton visited last Tuesday with Mr, and Mrs. Andrew Kirkconnell, Mr. and Mrs, Harold Brown and sons, Danny and Tin of Port Colborne visited last Saturday with her uncle and aunt, Mr, and Mrs, Andrew Kirkconnell, Mr. and Mrs, Robert Cook of London spent the weekend with her parents, Mr, and Mrs. William Moss, Miss Diane Kirkconnell and her friend, Miss Audrey Parker of London spent the weekend with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Kirkconnell. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Hamilton and Mr. and Mrs, Frank Phalen of Goderich were guests on Friday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hamilton. Recent guests with Mr, and Mrs. Ed Davies were Mr, and Mrs. Lewis Holtby and Mr, and Mrs. Russel Holtby of Belmont, Mr. and Mrs. William Holz of Buffalo, N.Y., Mr. and Mrs. Harold Shaw of Minnesota and Mr. and Mrs. John McCollough of North Dakota. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Youngblut, John and Jennifer visited last week with his mother, Mrs. Myrtle Munro and all enjoyed a holiday at Point Farm Provincial Park. Mr, and Mrs. Donald Youngblut, Lorie, Barry and Bradley of London were also guests of his mother during the week. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Davies at- tended the Morrison-Abbott wedding at CHIHLI, in St. James Anglican Church and also visited friends in`Coldwater and Port Severn. Kenneth McDougall and his mother, Mrs. Ethel McDougall of Seaforth and his aunt, Mrs. Myrtle Munro attended the Mountain reunion last Sunday at Avonbank. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Liver- more and family of Fordwich visited last weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Haines. Mrs. Jessie Sheppard of Bright's Grove and Mrs. Thomas Sheppard of Sarnia visited last week with Miss Laura Phillips and Mr. and ,Mrs. Thomas Johnston and Rover Phillips. Thomas Sheppard, a former Auburn resident, is at present in Turkey for Polymer Co. at Sarnia. Len Coyne of Windsor is visiting with Mr. and Mrs: Ross Robinson. Elva Straughan is visiting at Meaford with her daughter, Mrs, Clayton Robertson and Mr. Robertson. Mr. Rober- tson recently retired from In- ternational Nickel Co. at Cop- per Cliff and have moved to their new home in Meaford. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Raithby returned home last Monday from a vacation spent at Keswick in the Manitoulin area. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Scott of London spent the•weekend with his parents, Mr, and Mrs, Ken- neth Scott and brother Eric. Miss Lila Youngblut was guest of honor at a luncheon at the home of Mrs. Kenneth Scott last Wednesday when neighbours and relatives gathered to honor her on her approaching marriage, Mrs. Duncan MacKay read an ad- dress of congratulations to Miss Youngblut and Mrs, Eleanor Bradnock presented her with a purse of money on behalf of the 30 guests present. Miss Youngblut thanked everyone for the girft and a social time was enjoyed by all. Miss Fern Symington of Toronto, a former Auburn resident visited last week with Mr, and Mrs. Thomas Johnston and Miss Laura Phillips. Mrs, Hugh Bennett of Port Albert, Mrs. Harold Nicholson of Seaforth, Mrs. John Menheere and son Paul of R R 2d Dublin and Mrs. John Stadelmann and Christine of R R 2 Blyth visited last Tuesday with Mrs, Eleanor Bradnock. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs, Fred Lawrench on the birth of their daughter in Vic- toria Hospital, London. Friends were sorry to learn of the accident of Lyle Youngblut of Blyth who suffered greatly when a nail went into his eye while working at the home of Mr, andMrs. Oliver Anderson, He is a patient in Victoria Hospital where .it is hoped they can save his sight. BRIAN JOSEPH LEDDY Funeral services were held at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church for Brian Joseph Leddy who passed away at his home, Lot 24, Con, 5 West Wawanosh Township in his 'ninth year, He was the son of Kenneth Leddy and Catherine McLeod and had attended Kingsbridge Separate School. Besides his parents he is sur- vived by one sister, Dianne and one brother, Kevin; his grand- parents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Leddy of Lucknow and Mr. and,,,Mrs, Orland McLeod of Kincardine; and his great-grandmother, Mrs. Stella Scott of Kincardine. The funeral was at 11 a.m. with Msgr. L. Phalen and Father Ed Dettinger in charge. Burial took place in St. Augustine Cemetery with pallbearers being Raymond Leddy, Larry Carter, Pat Boyle and Jim Foran. Arthur Funeral home was in charge of arrangements. RUBY EVENT Open house was held last. Sunday for Mr. and Mrs. John Daer on the occasion of their 40th wedding anniversary. The hall was suitably decorated for the occasion. TREVOR xG (ARP Oa • The Canadian Order .of Foresters, Court Benmiller, the men's lodge, and Court Fascination, the ladies' lodge, have had a very successful year ,ue to this point. Six teams were sent to the Western Ontario Bowling 'Tournament in London, A team consisting of Jack Thom; Leone Thom, Brian Stothers, Marilyn Stothers and Betty Miller placed eighth and will represent the court in the Dominion Bowling in the fall, Dances in April, June, and August were sell-outs and of in- terest is the fact that Nelson McClure of Seaforth won the portable colour television set and Bob Jewell, the door prize at the August dance. Both lodges were well represented at the District Council Meeting in April at which Brother Eric Moore of Court Benmiller was elected president for 1974, Also in April 15 sisters of Court. Fascination collected $695 for the Huron County Cancer Society. In June, Court Fascination and Court Constantine celebrated their 15th birthday together. Also Court Fascination presented mint sets as proficiency awards to John Kloeze and Martha Robertson of Colborne Public School, and to Bob Cox and Helen Hart- man of Holmesville Public School. Court Benmiller made a special award to Glen Linner of Colborne School as well. A good representation of both lodges attended the an- nual Church Parade at Lon- desboro United Church to hear . High Chaplain Bro, Stan McDonald speak. Also in the month of June, some sixty members of Goderich and Lucknow Lions were hosted at the annual Lions and Foresters steak barbecue at the lodge hall. Three long time members of Forestry, Brothers Wes Joynt, William Mugford, and Ernest Holtzhanzen, received .60 year pins from High Chief Ranger Bros, Ear) Parsons. At the same June meeting, fourteen members were on hand to receive 25 year pins, - Floyd Lodge, Raymond Ginn, Alex Alexander, John Deer, John McGraw, Cliff McNeil, Doug McNeil, Frank Bowra, Eugene Ryan, Horace Horton, Bert Deer, Elliott Rivett, Ralph Kingswell and David Harmon, About one hundred members were in attendance with visitors from Hanover London, Brantford, Atwood -and Kin- burn. Brother Wally Matzenke from Kadie was recognized for his effort in rejuvenating Court Benmiller in the late fifties, Both courts have added a. number .of new members men. tly ..and have had several fun days together such as a golf day and a barbecue. Court Benmiller, past chief ranger, Allan Webster; chief ranger, Gerry Ginn; vice-chief ranger, Gordon Daer; chaplain, Jack Graham; conductor, Wm, Jewell; warden,, Ross ner guard, Bill Black; outer guard, Geo, Robinson, District Deputy is Leonard Fisher and. his high marshal! is Robert CENTURY MARK A former Auburn resident, Mrs, Isabelle Hamilton celebrated her 100th birthday at Huronview lest Sunday, August 18 with Open House held in the craft room, Her son Thomas and his Wife, Formelda arranged for the relatives and friends to come and see Mrs. Hamilton Her daughter-in-law pinned a lovely rose corsage on her. Bouquets of roses adorned the room. There was also a large decorated birthday cake with candles. Lunch was served by the grandchildren and they were also in charge of the guest book, Mrs. Hamilton's brother, Lorne Wilson of Brucefield and her sister Mrs. Arthur (Marian) Rutledge of Egmondville were both present, Mrs, Hamilton has one son Thomas of Goderich, seven grandchildren, 19 great grand- children and one great-great grandchild. Mrs. Hamilton was the for- . mer Isabelle Wilson and was born at Auburn. She attended U.S.S. No. 5 Hullett. At the turn of the century she went to the. Yukon after she married George Hamilton and she tells thrilling experiences of the gold rush days around Old Crow in that northern country. Mrs. Hamilton used to love to relate many of her adventures and could hold her audiences for several hours listening to her. In 1910 the couple returned with their small son Thomas and took up farming until they retired to Auburn. Mrs. Hamilton is a member of St. Mark's Anglican Church, Auburn, and also had been a member of the Guild for many years. She is a charter member of the Auburn Women's In- situte. Many relatives and friends called during the after- noon to wish her a happy birth- day. The guest book, was in charge of the couple's only son, Robert and he was assisted in welcoming the guests by their four daughters, Mrs. Arnold (Edith) Roney of Mitchell; Mrs. Norman (Lila) McClinchey of R H 2 Auburn; Mrs. Robert (Edna) Seiler of Long Beach, California; and Mrs. Ralph (Ellen) Jackson of Mitchell, Assisting the bride and groom of 40 years in receiving the guests were My. and Mrs. Andrew Kirkconnell who were the attendants 40 years agn:l. Mrs. Kirkconnell is the groom's sister. Tea and lunch was served by grand-daughters, Cathy McClinchey, R R 2 Auburn; Mary Lee and Laurel Roney, Mitchell; Susan and , Nancy Seiler, Long Beach, California; and Sharon and Leone Jackson of Mitchell. Assisting in the kit- chen was Mrs. Bert Daer of Blyth and Mrs. Ross Daer of Auburn. A smorgasbord supper was enjoyed at 5 p.m. when nieces and nephews and close friends, joined Mr. and Mrs. Daer and their family. Mr. and Mrs. Daer were married at the Baptist. Par- sonage at Clinton by Rev. G. W. Sherman on August 25, 1934. Following their marriage they resided on their farm in Hullett Township until they moved to Auburn 16 years ago. He was employed by James T. Craig and Son Sawmill for several years. They are both members of St. Mark's Anglican Church and she is a member of the Anglican Church Women. Mr. Daer has one brother, Bert of Blyth and one sister, Mrs. Andrew Kirkconnell of Auburn. They have 11 grand- children and all were present except the eldest one, Rodger Roney of Mitchell who was on a Young Voyageurs' trip to Quebec at the time ofgtbeievent representing Mitchell District High School. The 139 guests were present from Long Beach, California, Kitchener, London, Goderich, Wingham, Clinton, Seaforth, Brussels and the surrounding district..
