New safety check
Minister of Transportation
and Communications John R,
Rhodes has announced details
of the Motor Vehicle Inspection
program coming into effect the
first of September,
Under the new program, a
Safety Standards Certificate
can be issued only by licenced.
Motor Vehicle Inspection
Stations, and each inspection of
a used vehicle must be carried
QUt by a mechanic registered
with the Ministry,
The Safety Standards Cer-,
tificate will replace the Cer-
tificate of Mechanical Fitness
now in use.
In Ontario, a motor vehicle
must undergo an inspection of
its safety related components
prior to resale or transfer of
ownership. It is estimated that
approximately one-third of the
vehicles in the province is in-
spected each year under this
program.
In making the artn.oun-
cement, Mr, Rhodes said, "The
purpose of this program is .not
to take cars off the road, but to
have mechanical defects correc-
ted at the time of resale,
resulting in safer vehicles on
our provincial roadways."
There will' be approximately
5,500 licenced .stations
throughout the province,
mainly at service station and
tar dealerships. Each station
whip be inspected prior to the
issuing of a licence to ensure
sufficient space, tools and
equipment are available to
properly complete the safety
standards inspection.
Mr. Rhodes indicated, "The
new program is designed to
provide a uniformly high stan-.
lard of inspection throughout
the province and to insure the
public that both the mechanic
and the station producing the
certificate meet the standards
established by the Ontario
Government,"

much. It will be opened
through the whole month ,of

RECREATION
Recreation Complex
proposals for Vanastra to serve
all of Huron County include
covering the 25 metre pool,
starting on Nov. 1st and it will
be completed by Jan. 1st 1975
so we will be able to spend
more time swimming than we
expected.
They day care centre has
been approved and will serve
up to 35 pre-school children, as
soon as the facilities are ready
you will be notified.
The auditorium will be
renovated to compliment the
indoor swim program and will
have all gym facilities needed.
All the facilities should prove
favourable and should prove of
interest to all people in Huron
County.
Funds to be used for the
covering of the pool will be
sponsered by the Recreation
Committee and are hoping to
get the service clubs in Huron
County to assist in project by
having a lottery, so hopefully
we will get help from all who
are approached to help in this
project.
By next week, I will be able
to tell you more about our new
Recreation • Director and you
will know who he is and I un-
derstand he is very well
qualified for this position. He
should be here hopefully by the
middle of September, so then
we will have a full winter
ahead of us with all sorts of
things to do.
