home. In the top of the third in-
ning, Greg Butler crossed the
plate off a hit by Don
MacDonald raising the score to
2.0, Kincardine chalked up
their first run in the bottom of
the third off one hit.
Clinton players Kennedy and
MacDonald knocked in a pair
of runs in the fifth inning.
There was no more scoring un-
til the seventh inning when
Kincardine came up with four
big runs to make the score 5-4.
In the ninth inning Greg
Butler saved the Juveniles
from defeat, when with one out,
he hit an inside the park home
run. Butlerl home run sparked
the team to hold Kincardine in
the ninth and score three runs
in the tenth.. With two on base,
Victor Kennedy hit a long
triple to left field, bringing
'home Ray Burns, Bill Irwin
and then himself after Irwin on
his charge to the plate, politely
uprooted the catcher. Kincar-
dine went scoreless in the tenth
inning.
Colquhoun pitched for Clin-
ton, striking out 12 and giving
up six hits.
Clinton now advances to the
All-Ontario Semi-Finals.
Derby's Gent to face
tough Goderich race
Brucetield fireman "Newt" Collins breaks his way into a

A big thankyou to all the parents who helped out at our
playgrounds last week especially those who accompanied our
senior playgrounders to Niagara Falls and those who went
with the juniors out to the farm. Thanks also to Jim Snell
and family for the use of the farm.
This Sunday, the Clinton Soccer Club hosts Goderich
United at the arena field and this promises to be one of the
best, if not the best, game of soccer played in this town.
Come out and support the team.
Monday Aug. 26, there will be another Monster Bingo
starting at 8:00 p.m. Come out and take one more shot at the
$1,000 Jackpot.

In Crediton 'Thursday,
August 15, Jeff Ball struck out
eight batters and only allowed
seven hits. The Clinton bats
were very strong, gathering 18
runs on 20 hits,

homerun and two singles
leading the local squad at the

On Saturday Atigust 17th the
pee wees captured the WOAA
downing Crediton 18-9, Robbie
Blake went the distance for
Clinton. Wayne Tideswell had
another good day at the plate,
hitting two homeruns, Jeff
Colquhoun also hit one out of
the park.

Clinton will be well represen-
ted at the Youth Bowling Con-
ference's bowling tournament
at the Canadian National
Exhibition this coming Friday
afternoon.
The Clinton team, consisting
of Greg Skinner, Lynn Arm-
strong, Alex Harrett, Wendy
Gibbings, Bob Atkinson and
Deb Johnston will bowl against
about 50 other teams in a three
game, total pinfall qualifying
round on Friday.
The eight top teams will ad-
vance to the finals on August
27 at the CNE.
Ken Johnston of Clinton will
also be going to the CNE in
another tournament as part of
an eight man team from the
Bluewater Bowlers
Association, Zone T team. He
will bowl on Sunday, August
25.

At the Vanastra Gun Club's
trap shoot on August 14, Man-
fred Dierof of Goderich had a
near perfect day when he hit 24
out of 25 targets. Harold Smith
of Seaforth and Mery Batkin of
Clinton were close behind with
22 hits each, and Al Greene of
Clinton hit 21.
The top shooters were
followed by Charlie Brandon of
Clinton with 20, Tom Allen of
Londesboro, Bob Orr and
Morris Save of Bayfield with
19 each, Jim Butcher of Plat-
sville, Greg Potter of Goderich
and Wayne Harvey of Goderich
with 16 each, and tied at 15
hits each were Ashley Gilbert

was played last night in Thorn-
dale and if the Colts were suc-
cessful the series decider will

area will compete Friday night
for a $2,000 purse in the tenth
race at Goderich Raceway
sponsored by the Goderich
Trotting Association.
Scotts Topic, owned and
driven by Bert Madil of
Dresden, has won over $32,000
with a lifetime record of 2:03
on a one.half mile track.
Romeo Lobell, trained and
driven by Mac Galbraith of
Wingham has won over $99,000
and has a lifetime record of
2:02.
Piper Wall, owned by Wall
Tyme Stables of Kincardine
and driven by Dave Wall has
won over $35,000. This horse
was recently defeated by
Derby's Gent. Observers expect
good competition between these
animals.
Mr. Peter Ray, owned by
Peter Harrison London and
Ray McLain, Port Elgin, is a
free legged pacer with lifetime
winning of $115,000 and a half
mile time of 2:00. He will be
driven by Mr. McLain,

Soccer Club
faces test
on Sunday
The Clinton Soccer Club will
play a tough rubber match
against Goderich United this
coming Sunday at the Clinton
Park at 6 p.m.
Clinton beat Goderich 3-2 in
regular league play, but were
defeated by United 3-I in Third
Division Cup play two weeks
ago.
So far this season, the Clin-
ton Club hasn't lost a regular
season's game, and go into
Sunday's match with a seven
wins, no losses and two ties
record. Clinton also has the
second best for and against
goal tally, of all the 34 teams in

by the fact that the local team
has been invited to the
prestigious London Celtic
Labour Day Tournament. Last
year, Clinton won the con-
solation trophy at the same
tournament.
Teams featured in the tour-
nament include Toronto
Calabria, Sarnia Dante, and
several other London First
Division Clubs. Clinton will
supplement their squad with
several selections from the
Goderich Club.

The Clinton Juveniles won
• the W.0,A.A. championship, for
the second year in a row,
defeating Kincarditie two
games straight,
‘,.„. The first game of the series
Was played in. Clinton, last
Wednesday night,, with the
Juveniles beating Kincardine
by a score of 18.10,
Kincardine opened the
scoring in the first inning with
one run off one hit. Clinton
evened it up in the second in-
ning as Dan Colquhoun crossed
the plate on one of Rick
Welch's many hits of the night.
In the third inning, the
Juveniles' went ahead 5-1, due
to the batting of Colquhoun,
MacDonald and Welch. Clinton
persisted to hammer the ball
all overithe park in the 'mirth
inning as they rallied for
another six runs, Cook, Burns,
Butler and ,Colnuhoun all
scored, then, with Don
MacDonald, on base, Rich
Welch slammed an inside the
park homerun to deep center.
Kincardine's second run
came in the sixth inning when a
player came home on a pass
ball. Clinton made it 13-2 in
the bottom of the .sixth when
Mike Anstett tripled, bringing
in MacDonald and Welch.
An error by Clinton's short-
stop, Dan Colquhoun, gave
Kincardine two unearned runs
in the seventh inning. Clinton
got those runs back plus three
more in the bottom of the
seventh when Cook,
Colquhoun, MacDonald, Ken-
nedy and Welch scored off five
base hits.
Kincardine made the final
score 18-10 as they obtained six
runs in the ninth inning off a
comedy of errors and two hits.
Don MacDonald, who hurled
for Clinton, went all nine in-
nings, giving up six hits and
striking out 13 batters, and gets
credited for the win. Clinton
outhit Kincardine 17-6.
