Hunter land are leaving shortly to make their home in Cam- bridge, England for the coming year. Mrs, Charles F, Rogers, Andy and John David of Hong Kong are also guests of her husband's uncle and aunt, Dr, and Mrs, Hunter. Mrs. John Sturgeon, was the guest of her sister, Mrs. Ivan Foote and sister-in-law Mrs, Victoria Parker, in Port Stanley for the past week. Mr, and Mrs. Angus Graham, Heather and Jeannie, Win- nipeg, Manitoba, returned to their home on Friday after holidaying for the past three weeks with their son and family, Mr, and Mrs. Richard Graham and Alana in Goderich and visiting with Mr, and Mrs. Reginald Francis in Bayfield, Mr. and Mrs. Angus. Graham and family will be remembered by many readers as they are former residents of the village. Very sincere sympathy is ex- tended to Mrs. Fred Weston and her family, Elaine (Mrs, Donald Dine!) London; Jackelyn (Mrs. Donald John- ston); and Kathryn; (Mrs. Morris Sauve), Bayfield and grandchildren, Ricky, Tracy, Johnny, Jamey, Christine and Mark, in the sad loss of a husband, father and grand, father, Mr, Fred Weston, who passed away Tuesday, July 30, 1974. Mr, Weston was buried on Friday, August 2, 1974 from Trimity Anglican Church, Bayfield with interment, in Bayfield Cemetery. Lions Club -Bayfield Lions Treasurer, Harry Baker was glad to report a profit of $2255.71 which was realized from the recent Lions Club An- nual Carnival, This money is to be used to help the swimmers, skaters and to promote hockey and also to promote recreational facilities in the Fair Grounds. Jack Merner, Club President thanks all those who helped make this Carnival a success; and feels that this success would not be possible without Mr, and Mrs. Reg Lawson John and Elizabeth visited on Wednesday with Mr. and Mrs. E.F. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Reynolds returned home on Sunday evening and Janet Bob and Nancy Jo returned home with their parents having spent the past week at the Thompson home. Historical Socioty The Bayfield Historical Society will meet in the Old Town Hall on Monday evening, Aug, 12 at 8 p.m. and present a "Talk About" Antique glass by Mr. John Cook, who lectures at Fatishawe College, London; an., tique clocks; by Mr,. Donald Lance, who lectures at Green- field Village, Dearborn, Michigan, and Mrs, Given Pemberton an authority on Early Canadian Chairs. This sounds. like a very interesting program and you are cordially invited to attend. Twentyfive relatives gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson McClure on Wednesday evening for a shower for Mr. and Mrs. Walter Cunningham (newly weds) of Londesboro. Mr. Eric Scott, Mr, Bill Sproul and Mr. Gordon Daer spent last week-end with the former's brother, Mr. Wayne Scott at Missanabie Ontario. Mrs, Thomas Johnston has returned from Alexander and Marine hospital, Goderich and is convalescing at her home, we wish her a speedy recovery. Mrs. Reta Dodd . returned last week from a visit in Bracebridge. Mrs. Anne. Redmond of Godertag-'iit'pfiliegrin Rooth' 482 of St. Joseph's hospital, London. Her many friends in this community wish her a speedy recovery following her surgery this week. Mr, Warner Andrews is visiting relatives in Saskat- chewan. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Robinson spent 'the holiday week-end with their son Mr. Keith Robinson, and daughters at Newmarket. Mr. and Mrs. James Schneider held a successful auction sale last Saturday with a very large crowd. Obituary FREDERICK S. WESTON Frederick Stuart Weston of Bayfield passed away in Vic- toria Hospital in London on July 30, 1974. He was 61 years old. Mr. Weston was born in Bayfield on September 8, 1912, a son of the late William and Elizabeth Weston. He attended Bayfield Public School and the Clinton Collegiate. He worked at CFB Clinton for many years and also as a painter when the Base closed. On April 8, 1939, he married the former Maude Parker in Bayfield. She survives him, Folidwing their marriage, the couple lived in Bayfield. Mr. Weston was a member of Trinity Anglican Church in Bayfield and the Royal • Canadian Legion, Branch 140, Clinton. Besides his wife, he is sur- vived by three daughters, Mrs. Donald (Elaine) Dinel of Lon- don, Mrs. Donald (Jackelyn) Johnston of Bayfield and Mrs. Morris (Kathryn) Sauve of Bayfield; and six, grand- children, Rickey, Tracey, Jamie, Jonny, Christine and Mark. Funeral services were held arom,,,Trinity .Angl icane Church in Bayfield with Rev, George .Youmatoff officiating. Inter- ment was in Bayfield Cemetery. The Ball Funeral home was in charge of arrangeinents. Pallbearers were Wilfred Castle of 'Clinton, Ken Weston of Detroit, Grafton Weston of London, Jack Sturgeon, Mert Merner and Bill Parker, all of Bayfield. Flower bearers were Ian Stewart of Toronto, Charles Pruss and Larry. Krupa of Lon- don, all nephews, and Rickey Johnston, a grandson from Bayfield. The A.C.W. of St. James Anglican Church Middleton held a successful "garage" and baking sale last Saturday on the church lawn. A gay country-fair at- mosphere prevailed. Elmer Trick played a snappy piano, accompanied by Mr. Wilfred Jervis on the "bones". Mrs, Jervis was a roly-poly clown, adding to the general jollity The tantalizing aroma of hot dogs and coffee wafted from the Youth Club's Snack Bar. Unfortunately, a sudden deluge of rain in mid-afternoon dispersed the crowd. As a result there are still many rock- bottom bargains to be had. These will be on sale in the church basement Saturday morning, Aug, 10th. On Friday August 9th, the St. James Youth Club is staging a wake-a-thou, with the aid of sponsors this will raise funds for their new organ. They aim to stay awake for 48 hours. The annual outdoor church service and picnic of St. James Church Middleton will be held at Stewart Midcileton's park on Sunday, August 18th at 11 a.m. The Rector, the. Rev. George Youmatoff will' preach 'from a boat in the little lake. The Bradley Bunch and Mr. Seamus Jim Doherty will provide special music. A bountiful pot-luck smorgasbord noon dinner is a big feature of this event, followed by boating, fishing etc. The youth club will have an af- ternoon snack-bar. Everyone is welcome to this special effort of St. James church. PERSONALS Mr. and Mrs. Edward Deenes returned last Tuesday from a delightful holiday in England. They visited relatives in Banbury, Devonshire. Among the highlights was a tour of Blenheim Palace and a trip to Bladen, where Winston Churchill is birried; the Dart- mouth ferry took them to the Dartmouth Naval college where Prince Charles got his naval training; at Stratford, they took a river boat trip on the Avon and visited the places associated with William Shakespeare. On to Torquay Devon one of the world's most scenic ports. The little village of Grand Feir was complete with a manor house, thatched roofs. On its village green the old stocks were still to be seen, where wrongdoers were placed. At their headquarters town of. Banbury, the Deeves went to the largest livestock yard in Europe and saw thousands of cattle and sheep being sold. The final night of their holiday was spent in London, England. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Mid- dleton spent the weekend in Ot- tawa and attended the wedding of Miss Pamela White and Mr. Robert Hamiltq,n. •Christ Church Cathedral on Saturday. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Allen White (nee June Middleton) . and the groom is the son of Colonel and Mrs. Wm. Hamilton, all of Ot- tawa. Other area relatives, who at- tended this wedding were Mr. and Mrs, Francis Powell and Mr. and Mrs. Ross Middleton. Awards were presented during the evening for achievement through the year. One of the big winners, John Bennendyk will be entering •S.H.H.S, with three awards. At the graduation banquet,, Steven Johns was given the award for_ top academic boy and Marianne Kalbfieisch for top academic girl. John Ben-. nendyk was runner up for this award. -Outstanding sports par, ticipation was split between Alfie Taylor and Hilda Wynja, John Bennendyk. was given the award for all around boy and Brian McGregor was runner- Obituary MRS. ELLEN COOK Mrs. Ellen Cook, widow of the late William Wesley Cook of Clinton, passed away on Tuesday, July 30th at the home of her son in the city of Hamilton. She was in her 92nd year. She is survived by her sons, Reginald of London, and (Rev. Dr.) Roy Cook of Hamilton, Pallbearers were her grand- sons, Clifford Cook of London, Robert Cook of Toronto, a grandson by marriage, Mr. James Kersey of Hamilton, and three nephews, James McNeil of Atwood, Gordon Bradshaw of Goderich, and Russel Brad- shaw of Brussels. Mrs. Cook had lived most of her life in the Clinton area, and was a member of Ontario St. United Church. The funeral was conducted by her pastor, Rev. L.S.
