Liberals celebrate election
BY DEBBIE DIMMICIC •
The Huron-Middlesex
Liberals had a. ""Lyndon cut the
majority" and "Liberals have a
majority" celebration after the
polls closed Monday night.
John Lyndon may have
trailed by 7,000 votes but his
supporters cheered and
whistled enthusiastically as he
gave his views on the election
in an interview on CKNX.
It prompted the first quiet
moment of the evening. Most of
the Liberal contingent waited
until nearly 11 p.m.. before
arriving at the Sunset Golf and
Sports Centre where beef done
on a spit and free liquor
awaited them.
Those who had worked at the
polls all day dragged them-
selves around with little energy
left in them.
"People are just too damn
tired to get excited", one
scrutineer remarked as she set-
tled back in a bench.
But the appearance of Prime
Minister Pierre Trudeau on the
television screen rejuvenated
most of the supporters, raising
such comments as, "you don't
fool around, do you Trudeate"
, The Prime Minister's com-
ments on the loss of David
Lewis'• caused many snicker's
anthgrins. As their leader con-
tinued, the area Liberals retur-
ned to their beef-on-a-bun .and
celebrations.
The' clack was moving
rapidly and people began to
wonder when their candidate
was going to arrive.
IL was after midnight when
he pulled up. Some supporters
had been waiting since 8:30 to
see Lyndon and any interest
that had died during the wait
was regained as he entered the
lounge in a flurry 'of hugs and
kisses for his supporters.
"John, we•all love you", one
white-haired lady said with an
embrace,
"You made a good showing
for a first try", one man yelled
across the room.
Someone slipped a drink into
his hand as he continued
around the room, expressing
•his thanks.
Bruce Lyndon, the can-
didate's son had been sitting
quietly in the background all
evening. After his father finally
found a seat, Bruce came for-
ward, hand extended.
"Sorry about that, but we
came ahead", he said.
"We certainly did and that's
what. counts", Lyndon retur-
ned.
"This was round ode", the
candidate said, "round two is
conifiiebp.' and it could' -be
completely different •bell
game.'
Of the national win, he said,
"It did my heart good to see the
Liberals take a majority."
This riding may have
remained Conservative, but
everyone at the Golf Club was
having a victory party.
"It's nice to know that
you've made a showing and
that people looked at you", Mr.
Lyndon continued confidently,
"They're going to get a chance
to look again,"

As with a car, your bicycle

and you must know your
bicycle safety rules.
So parents - before your
youngsters get their bikes out of
the basement, check them over
and satisfy yourself that they're
properly equipped and in good
condition.
Make sure that the children
know' their safety rules; perhaps
you could even give them a

pleased to help you.

TO THE HURON COUNTY
BOARD OF EDUCATION:
I have examined the Balance Sheet of the Huron County Board
of Education as at December 31, 1973, the Revenue Fund, Statement
of Operations and the Statement of Source and Application of capi-
tal Funds for the year then ended. My examination included a general
review of the accounting procedures and such tests ,of accounting
records and other supporting evidence as 1 considered necessary in
the circumstances.
In my opinion these Financial Statements present fairly the
financial position of the Board as at December 31, 1973 and the
results of its operations and the source and application of its capital
funds for the year then ended, in accordance with accounting prin-
ciples generally accepted for Ontario school boards applied on a
basis consistent with that of the preceding year.
