The. Longest Day or the Wedding
The preacher sneezed and adjusted his collar,
And; somebody choked y~'hile,tr ling to 'a►,vaile '' ,.
The` mof hers -were-'05bing, the" fathers were`
And a group of flies were buzZing too loud.
Lois and Mildred, you could see by their faces
Both preferred to be other places.
They seemed to recall the rehearsal being easier •
And as time dragged on, their stomachs got queasier.
Cecil and Ross were still on their feet,
But looked about due to collapse in the heat,
Their shirts were stuck to their backs with sweat,
And the preacher hadn't even started yet.
He was leafing madly through his book,
Attempting to find the place he took
His bookmark from five minutes ago
How could anybody be that slow?
Most of the relatives in the pews
Felt like taking off their shoes.
Some of the others were fast asleep
And prayed to the Lord their souls to keep.
If he doesn't soon start he's gonna spoil it -
And some old guy sneaked off to the toilet.
At last the preacher's voice was heard,
And vows were stammered, word by word,
Rings were exchanged and kisses given
An old woman whispered "They're married, Thank
Heaven".

A eOi.iiite';of yetig: men freA fttbm the .61.ml,
Wed two sisters, arm in arm,
Lois and Cecil, Millie and Ross
(Nobody knew yet who'd be boss).-
The date they set was June the 1st
And it went down in hist'ry
As one of the worst.
Standing abruptly before the altar,
Cecil and Ross tried not to falter.
The bouquets of flowers smelled
Strong in their noses
As they assumed these uncomfortable poses
The air was heavy - the church was hot
Who knew if they'd remember their lines or not?
Just then the organ announced the news
And Ross and Cecil shook in their shoes
From the back of the church:who should appear
But Lois and Mildred and their proud daddy dear.
It seemed forever as they marched down the aisle
These two fine sisters with a' trace of a smile
Approached the young men whose hearts they had sung for
And Cecil and Ross knew they were done for.
A hush fell over the church that day,
As if somebody'd taken your ears away.
