(News-Record photo) Colts keep winning ways Recreationally speaking BY BEY WILTON Our first registration for playgrounds held last Saturday was very poorly attended: This Saturday, we will hold registration again from 10 til 4, so come out and register. Bring $1 for children over 6 years. It's in the arena. Swimming registrations will also be held this Saturday in the arena. Refer to the ad in the paper for prices and classes. Hours are also 10 til 4. There were three program ideas in this column last week, and an appeal for interested parties to call the arena to give us some idea of interestA within the community. Once again the programs are: table tennis for all ages; floor hockey for boys and girls; and,,indoor tennis on the big floor for all ages. J. nese programs will be run in separate age groups. Tennis instruction will be available for beginners. The Colts played last night against Zurich and play in Exeter Saturday night at 6 p.m, and in Thorndale Wednesday night at 8:30 p.m. Pee-wees lose opener The Clinton Kinsmen pee- wees opened their 1974 season in Goderich Monday night, only to be beaten by a well- balanced team. Trailing 6-1 after the first in- ning ,made the game an uphill battle but the Clinton boys came back to score three more runs. Clinton nitrher Pete Beukema threw a fine game allowing only nine hits. Goderich did score one more run closing the score at 7-4, • With only three second year pee-wees in the lineup, the team played a very good game, A schedule will be put in the paper to advise fans of the games. Clinton Soccer Club eaten, 41ed their unbeaten record to five games. at the weekend when they defeated Ingersoll flyers 'EV .by. a score of .34, to -remain top of the Third flaying in 85 degree heat .and with a strong wind blowing, Clinton found the going tough and had noAuck around the Ingersoll goalmouth. Although never in serious trouble, Clinton's defence ap- peared lacking in confidence when Ingersoll were on the at- tack - and only good goalten- ding by Doug Rielly kept Clin- ton on even teams. Clinton gradually took charge of the game and had many shots on net which found the Ingersoll goalkeeper infine form. Late in the first half, Clinton was awarded a penalty which Charlie Lipp had no trouble converting. The first half then ended with Clinton one goal up. In the second, half, Clinton Clinton won two and lost two in Minor Soccer action at the weekend, The local pee-wees travelled to St. Marys and came away with a 2-1 win. Jeff Gibbings had both Clinton goals. Clinton Mosquito 'A' team went down 5-2 to Goderich Beavers. Kirby Deller and Ray Dallas scored for Clinton. The Mosquito 'B' team took 7-1 to St. Columban, but played bet- ter than in previous games so hopefully they will have another win soon. Greg Skinner was Clinton's lone marksman. Clinton Sharks (Atoms) playing in Goderigh against the Gunners, started with the wind and went immediately' on the attack, With ten minutes gone, Sean Van Dangen scored for The Clinton Junior Girls Ball Club opens their regular season with a home game tom- morrow night against Dublin at 8:30. Also at this time, the draw will be made for the tickets the gals have been selling. Tickets can still be ob- tained so it's not too late. If you, haven't already gotten your Booster button it also can be obtained from any of the girls or coaches. This year, the girls have' a few new faces so come out and support them. "Cantelon again had the ball in the net a few minutes later but it was ruled offside and the game ended with Clinton ahead by 3-1. Clinton's next game is in St, Marys this Saturday at 4 p.m. A date for fans to make note of is. June 29th, when Clinton play at home to Grand Bend in the Second Round of the Third Division Cup, Clinton on a good play. In the second half, Sean scored again followed five minutes later by a booming shot from thirty yards out by (Captain) Brad Forbes, to make the score 3.0 for the "Sharks," Goderich then went to work and scored to make, it 3-1. Goderich were then awarded a penalty shot which big "Mr. 0" (Jim Fleming) stopped. With about five minutes to go, Goderich scored again but could not tie it up. The game ended at 3-2 for Clinton. Stars for Clinton were Pete Denomme, Perry Daer and Brad Forbes. Special mention goes to Paul Stephenson, Jim Fleming and David Allen. excellent game. See you at the park Friday night. The Clinton Colts picked up two more victories in the past week with easy victories over Arva and the Thorndale Angels. Last t Wednesday's game against Arva proved to be nothing more than a batting practice as Clinton wrapped out 18 hits for 16 runs with Dan Colquhoun, Zeke Fremlin and Hans Leppington leading the way with three hits apiece, Stew Mustard and Archie Pickett each had two hits with single hits by Greg Burns, Dave Fawcett, Steve Switzer, Paul Bartliff and Don Bartliff. Stew Mustard picked up the pitching victory as he gave up no runs while allowing only four hits and striking out eight. On Friday night, Brad Dutot survived early inning control problems and went on to pitch the Colts to a 7-2 victory over the Thorndale Angels. In the fourth, Clinton opened the gap to 4.1 as Dave Bartliff rapped a single scoring Victor Kennedy and Don MacDonald, Kincardine retaliated in the top of the fifth, scoring four runs, three of them on wild pit- ches. The juveniles tied it up in the bottom half as Ray Burns crossed the plate "off a hit from Greg Butler. Mark Nicholson went in for Rick Welch in the sixth inning and .allowed._ two unanswered runs. Clinton tied the game at 7-7 in the seventh as Greg got another base hit scoring two more runs.
