The Huron County board of
education last Monday endor-
sed the recommendation of the
"Noah" project of the
Metropolitan Toronto Zoo
Fund to the extend that any
school wishing to participate
for the purpose of raising funds
to purchase a live specimen for
this Zoo may do so.
The Board endorsed the
committee recommendation
that Mrs. Mona Mulherne's
request be denied for the
payment of tuition fees by this
board for her attendance at the
H:B. Beal Secondary School,
. London, for the 'purpose , of
taking a special art course, (It
was noted she was not presen-
tly a pupil in a school in Huron
and is a post secondary
graduate.)
Also denied was a request of
W.R. Wark, commercial
teacher at Goderich Collegiate
Institute, that he be released
• from his classroom duties for
the school year, 1974-75, so
that he might work as a
resource and liaison person
in business education.
The board approved the
school year calendar as presen-
ted by the teacher-trustee-
administration liaison commit-
tee which calls for nine
professional activity days for
school year 1974-75 and
distributes them throughout
the year along with mid-winter
break, Remembrance Day and
Easter Monday.
The report from the animal
care committee was approved
as a guideline for the use of
animals in elementary and
secondary schools dealing with
their care, food, and ex-
perimentation. On the commit-
tee are: Cam Addison, a
teacher at Clinton Public
School; J,W. Coulter, ad-
ministration centre; J. Gnay, a
teacher at F.E. Madill Secon-
dary School; Harry Hayter, a
trustee from RR 2, Dashwood,
Ronald Jewitt, principal of
Zurich Public School, and Dr.
J.0. Turnbull, a Seaforth
veterinarian.
A request from Principal of
Goderich District Collegiate In-
stitute was approved to send
the Goderich Collegiate Con-
cert Band on a three-day tour
to Sarnia, St. Thomas,
Waterloo and Hamilton, May
9-11 at a cost of $300 for tran-
sportation costs and the Salmi/
for one supply teacher.

Due to the tornado' in Hib-
bert Township on Sunday
causing the power failure, the
area was without hydro for
about four hoUrs, but escaped
other damage.

The board approved a
request for a field trip by
Hullett Central Public School
for 29 grade 8 students to go on
a two-day trip to Toronto May
9-10 to visit Toronto Inter-
national Airport, Fort York,
the Toronto Dominion Centre,
the Parliament Buildings, the
Royal Ontario Museum and the
Planetarium_ to reinforce some
of the instruction they received
to date this year in science,
history and geography and to
become somewhat aware of the
way of life in an urban centre,
at a cost of approximately $75
to board-school budget and the
balance amounting to about
$20 per pupil.
One trustee, Herbert
Turkheim, two administrators,
possibly R.B. Dunlop and W.D.
Kenwell, and two teacher
representatives were named to
attend a workshop on the
Government's education
resources allocation system to
be held in Chatham on May 9.
The board approved an On-
tario-Quebec teacher exchange
in 1974-75 to give the teachers
Varna United Church.
Mr. Blaine Stephenson, who
is attending Sir Sandford
Fleming School in Lindsay was
visiting with his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Ralph Stephenson for
the Easter weekend.
Mr. and Mrs. Murray
Morrison and son of Ilderton
were visiting relatives in the
