BY SHIRLEY J. KELLER
There will be a deer season
in Huron County this year
although it is not a unanimous
decision on the , part of county
councillors.
On a recorded 'vote in the
matter, council voted 27.27
with the tie being broken by
Goderich Reeve Deb Shewfelt
in favour of the deer season.
Reeve Elgin Thompson
showed his displeasure to the
way in which Reeve Shewfelt
broke the tie by saying that in
his opinion, it was unfortunate
that today's people would
allow, animals such as deer to
run around with an arrow or a
The March meeting of Unit 3
of Brucefield UCW was held in
the church. The worship with
its theme in "Education" was
led by Vina Brodie and Eileen
McGregor. The call to worship,
taken from Proverbs was given
by Eileen followed by singing a
hymn. The scripture was read
by Eileen. The offering was
received and dedicated. An ar-
ticle in Education was read by
Vina and a hymn was sung and
the worship service was closed
with a prayer by Vina.
Vina then introduced the
guest speaker, Mr. Mathers,
principal of Huron Centennial
School, who gave a talk on the
educational program at the
.school. A question and answer
period followed, Asked about
what effects television had on
bullet in their hind quarter.
Reeve Shewfelt countered
with, "That might be better
than starving to death."
Evidence brought to county
council last month by lands
and forests officials showed
there are many deer in Huron,
enough to warrant a deer
season.
The county 'development'
committee also recommended a
deer season and approval was
finally given by council for a
gun season from November 11-
13 and an archery season from
October 29 to November 25.
The deer season is for Ontario
residents only on condition the
adjacent counties concur.
children coming into school, he
said that what it has given in
information, it has. taken away
in imagination, even though the
children are reading as many
books as they did before. Asked
about how parents can best
prepare their pre-schoolers for
school,' he said that the most
important thing was to have a
good parent-child relationship,
a good relationship with other
children, and with other adults.
Eileen thanked Mr. Mathers
for his talk.
The business part of the
meeting followed; Norma
McGregor thanked Vina and
Eileen for their worship ser-
vice. The secretary's report was
given and adopted. The
treasurer's arid cards and
flowers reports were given. A
thank you note from Olive
Broadfoot was read.
