Norton Walter Irwin, 32, of Arbour Glen Crescent, was- remanded to March 1 for a pre- sentence report and sentence in Unit 1 of Hensall UCW met Thursday afternoon with Kay Elder presiding. She began her devotional theme reading •a poem "Old Friends", followed by scripture from John. A hymn was sung with , Beiva Fuss accompanying on the piano, Kay gave the scriptural thoughts "A man that bath friends must show himself friendly and there is no friend that sticketh closer than a brother." Her all important theme "Do not desert an old friend" gave everyone true thoughts to remember. A true friend is one who stands up for his friend in joy or sorrow, while a fair weather friend refuses to 'stand up and be counted as a defender. If we are true friends of' Jesus, we will welcome his presence and share in his interests. Happy is the person who can say of Jesus "This is my beloved and this is my friend". Kay offered prayer, which was followed by the Lord's prayer in unison. The roll call was answered by 15 members. Doreen Spen- cer had a most interesting study from the new study, book "Mission Impossible", One definition given for the word mission is sending from or sen- ding to, which makes ,us think of what is being done at the present time, the inter-changing of missionaries. We now have Dr. Jas Evans from the Congo. Another definition was a job to be accomplished as com- munity welfare. We must ap- proach our Christianity dif- ferently. It must be suitable to the needs and understanding of . the individual countries. A very interesting group discussion was held on the most important way of life and how, to show the real meaning of mission. The' members agreed on the following, (1) witnessing for Jesus where you . are, -(2) helping those who help , themselves; (3) loving our . neighbours, (4) brotherhood, (5) supporting people to help themselves, (6) raising money for missionaries, Mildred Kyle presided• for the business. The World bay of Prayer is on March 1 at 3 p.m. in Carmel Presbyterian Church, and the Huron-Perth Presbyterial is at Mitchell United Church March 6. Miss Audrey McKim, a very talented person, is to be the guest' epeaker. After the mizpah benediction, everyone enjoyed a contest, New Books Recent book additions to the Clinton Library include: Cameron, Ian, "The IMpossible Dream", tells the story of the building of the Panama. The money—more than $10,009—was put in a bag and Irwin ushered the two female employees into;" a washroom. The women escaped through a window and contacted police. Mr. Cochrane said Irwin went to the Hensall Hotel Hostesses were Helen Scene and Will Beck. Chiseihurst UCW After a morning spent in quilting and a pot luck dinner, Chiselhurst UCW met February 12 in the basement of the Church, with President Erla Coleman presiding. The wor- ship with the theme "Staying away from the edge" was taken by Pearl Taylor. Scripture was read by Vera Ross, The treasurer's report was given and the roll call was an- swered by 15 members and one visitor. Thank-you notes were read from Mrs. Fred Brock, Sheila Riley and Grace Drum- mond. The members were reminded of the Huron-Perth Presbyterial meeting on March 6 at Mitchell United Church. A forum on "Alcohol Abuse" will be held in Seaforth Nor- thside United Church on March 27. The World Day of Prayer Service will be held in Carmel Presbyterian Church on March 1. Pearl Taylor and Dorothy Brintnell volunteered to take part in the latter. The visiting committee repor- ted six calls had been made on shut-ins. The Bible study was taken by Doiothy Brintnell. A skit on "Christian Visiting" was given by Vera Ross, Pearl, Taylor and "Mary Brintnell. The meeting closed with the benediction. The hostess for the afternoon :was Ardys Glenn.
