Throughout the regular
'season, the Clinton Colts were
guilty of playing "inconsistent
hockey" (putting wins together)
and if the first two games of the
playoffs are any indication the
Colts' problems are going to
continue.
An overtime loss to
Kurtzville last Friday night
dimmed their hopes but they
bounced back to defeat the
highly-rated Milverton Four-
Wheel Drives Sunday.
As a result of the defeat to
Kurtzville, ..the Colts are con-
fronted with a "must win"

Clinton Mustangs topk a one
game lead Tuesday night with
an exciting 5.4 win over Lucan
Irish. By the time this is
published they could have won
the series and be playing the
Mitchell Hawks as the fourth
ganie was played last night in
Lucan.
Randy Millar's goal at 17:24
of the third period gave the
Mustangs the winning goal on
a beautiful passing play by
Steve Cook.

On Tuesday evening,
February 12, a team made up
of players from the Atom
House League, travelled to
SeafOrth where, they played a
very exciting game against the
Seaforth Atoms, Seaforth won
6-3. Scoring for Seaforth
were Mike McLaughlin and
Bob Nash with two apiece, Don
Buxter and Gary Malone, one
each. Clinton coals were by
Jim Fleming with two and
Sean VanDongen with one.
House League
In the first game of Atom
house league played last Satur-
day, the Canadians defeated
the Bruins 3-0. Scoring the
Canadians' goals were Jeff
Biggin, Sean VanDongen, and
Jim Fleming with one each. In
the second game the Leafs
defeated the Blues 6-1.
Scoring for the Leafs were Paul
Stephenson with five and
Harry Otten with one. The
Blues' lone marker was scored
by Mike Maguire.

We rejoiced when our ping-

torious. Jenny Russo, Brenda

Thursday, February 14. We
won four of the six games.
This week a re-match will be
held at our school.
Special Thanks
The pupils of St. Joseph's

in this section were: Gerda

Nineteen speeches were
heard in the grades 4, 5 and 6
division. The competition was
keen and the judges, Mrs.
Agnes Carbert and Mrs. Nancy
Holmes, had a difficult time
selecting winners. Brenda
Dupee placed first in this sec-
tion with an excellent speech
on The Olympics. Mary Hill
was second place winner and
Joanne Middleton placed third.
very good crowd of over 400
people who quite easily got
their money's worth.
In last Sunday's game, the
'Stange bounced back with an
8-2 win after suffering a 5.4
loss in the best-of-five series
opener on. Friday night. Victor
Kennedy scored two goals
while Steve COok, Gary
Phillips, Mike Anstett, Randy
Millar, Phil Petrie and Bill
McDougall scored singles;
On Friday night, the 'Stange
spotted Lucan to a 5-1 second
period lead before getting back
into the game. However, Lucan
shut the doors on them after
Dave McClure's goal made it 5-
4 at the 11:45 mark of the third
period. Dan Colquhoun scored
two goals while Mike Anstett
picked up a pair of assists.
The series has been a
frustrating one ,for Clinton as
they are outplaying the Irish
but just can't seem to get the
needed breaks. Clinton goalie
Gary Yeoman has turned in a
great series this far, as he has
been called on a lot because of
a weak defence. The defence
has been weakened with Cal
Fremlin seeing limited action
as the result of an injured
thumb.
Regardless of last night's
results, there will definitely be
a home game Friday night at 8
p.m. If the 'Stangs win, then
they will open the semi-finals
against Mitchell in a best-of-
five series and will continue in
Mitchell Sunday night and
Tuesday back in Clinton.
However, if they should win the
series Friday night, it will start
in Clinton Sunday night.
Tuesday night's •crowd was
excellent and any senior
citizens wishing to watch the
game may use the auditorium
to view the game if they ask
manageinent at the door.
Bowling

away with• the lead in the

in bowling action this week.
The Anglers have collected 83
points and are followed by

Joyfish with 57, Mel's Minnows
with 48 and Dave's Darters
ton on Sunday afternoon at 2
P.M. when they swat sticks
with the W.O.A.A. Grand
Champions.
Kurtzville led by captain
Doug Boyd came from a 3-0
deficit to edge the Colts 6-4 in
overtime as the. local talent
simply ran out of gas. Boyd's
goal with only one minute left
in regulation time eluded Colt
goaltender, Dennis Fleishauer
to send the game into overtime.
Boyd also scored one of -two
goals scored by his team in the
ten minute overtime period.
Colt marksmen were Mel
Hohner, Joe Livermore, Archie
Pickett and Ken Daer.
Last Sunday night in Clin-
ton, the Colts' pattern was a

three periods.

Senior Basketball •
On Toesday Feb. -1211-1,:ifiii
Senior Recimen travelled to St.
Marys for a Huron-Perth Con-
ference basketball game.
Coming off from their win
against Listowel, the Redmen
were not at all ready for St.
Marys. The Seniors did not
come out strong in the first half
even though they were leading
at halftime 32-17. '
The second half did not
prove to be very exciting either.
Even though the Redmen went
on to win 62-37, their play left
something to be desired. Bob
Riehl led the'Redmen with 17
points. Jim Amsing notched 12.
Today, the Redmen play the
Seaforth Golden Bears. A win
will put the Redmen in the
playoffs, with a .6 win and 3
loss record. Game time is 2 p.m.
in the CHSS gym. Everyone is
welcome.
Junior Basketball
The juniors also played St.
Marys on Tuesday Feb. 12. At
the half, St. Marys led 20-17.
The juniors have been having
their problems this year and as
a result haven't been winning
too often. Even though they
made a frantic surge in the
fourth quarter of this game,
they ended up with the short
end of the stick. Final score
was 52-47 in favor of St. Marys.
The high scorer for the junior
Redmen was "T.J." jiihrpon
with 16 points.
Today, the juniors also play
Seaforth. This will be the last
game for the juniors as they
failed to make the playoffs'. A
win would close the season
nicely for them. _
Senior Volleyball
The ',senior girls' volleyball
team met their first defeat, last
week at home. They won their
first game against St. Marys
but couldn't seem to hold on,
and lost the following two
games of the match.
Because the girls lost to St.
Marys, they are now in second
place. They also played
Seaforth, defeating them two
straight.
The girls played at another
tournament on Tuesday with
Exeter, Stratford Central and
Listowel. They will also.attend
the Huron-Perth finals on
Friday.
Junior Volleyball
On Wednesday Feb. 6th, the
