The Citizen, 2008-12-04, Page 2PAGE 2. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 4, 2008.
Let there be light – and there was
– lots of them!
Santa was welcomed to Brussels
in fine style on Saturday evening.
Bright lights, blue lights, twinkling
lights, white, amber and red lights
were all in motion as part of a very
fine parade.
Vehicles of many types were
adorned in the finest of Christmas
apparel, all in welcome for the jolly
fellow in the red suit. Wagons,
trucks, cars, trailers, tractors and twobusy little machines that remindedme of that song that goes “it wentbop when it stopped …” kept thelarge crowd entertained. The driversof these (bobcats) looked to behaving a very good time, perhapspractising for the next square dancecompetition. The Santa Claus Parade is always
a good start to the festive season.
Community involvement and effort
for any parade takes a little
planning, organizing and time but it
shows us that community spirit is a
very important part of small-town
life. Each on our own can do
something, but when the business
folks join forces with the
firefighters, the Lions and Optimist
Clubs to get things organized the
enthusiasm of others just begins to
bubble.
The many individuals, groups and
clubs that entered the parade need to
be praised and thanked for showing
us the spirit of giving is alive and
well.
We’re now in the season of Advent
– the time of waiting – or in the
commercial sense it’s the season ofChristmas. Don’t let the advertisingruin the sentiment of the season foryou.Enjoy the children in your midstas they sing and play all the oldfamiliar carols. Treasure the effort astiny fingers find the tune in the keys.Celebrate. Savour the moments inthe concerts and carolling, see the
old story through new eyes. The
baking with Grandma’s recipe is
more fun when shared and
decorating with family and friends
makes for much entertainment. It’s a
truly wonderful time. Enjoy it.
Dec. 14 is when the Community
Choirs will entertain with their best
music. Dec. 15 join your UnitedChurch friends on bus tour of theFestival of Lights in Owen Sound.Call 519-887-9340 or 519-887-9318for details.Save Dec. 22 at 7 p.m. to sing allyour favourite Christmas songs atthe United Church.Bye now, Betty G.W.
