The Citizen, 2008-11-27, Page 13North Huron council wants a littlebetter understanding of the bottomline before making a commitment to
an OPP group policing proposal.
At the Nov. 17 meeting councillor
Greg McClinchey called the issue
“troubling.” At issue is the 44 per
cent increase in costs should they not
enter into a group contract, as well
as the Dec. 14 deadline for a
decision.
Another problem is how the total
cost will be divided among
municipalities.
“It’s difficult for us to do any long-
term planning when we don’t know
what the costs will be to us,” saidMcClinchey.“The December deadline is scary,”said deputy-reeve Murray Scott.“It’s almost like shotgundiplomacy,” added reeve Neil
Vincent.
Saying he had no desire to jump
into this kind of contract
McClinchey expressed
bewilderment that the OPP would
expect it. “How could they expect
any governance structure to act this
quickly especially with no
methodology.”
It was agreed that representatives,
administrative and elected, would
attend the next meeting before any
decision would be considered.
