The call to worship was the first
hymn, Seek Ye First the Kingdom.
This was followed by the prayer of
approach.
The children were asked to come
to the front of the church for their
story time. Lorna Fraser asked for
the congregation’s help in
purchasing uniforms for the Sunday
school’s pen pals in Pasder District,
Uganda. If the children do not have
uniforms they cannot attend school.
Rev. Gary Clark asked the
children if they knew what book he
had in his hand (The Bible). He told
the children that the Bible tells good
and bad stories. He explained a few
of both.
The children went down to
Sunday school while the
congregation sang the hymn,
Prepare the Way of the Lord. Brett
Glousher carried the candle lit fromthe candles at the front of the churchdown to Sunday school. The scripture lesson was Psalm137 followed by the hymn, I Love toTell The Story.Rev. Clark introduced KarenMelady and Linda Weibe as guestspeakers and he went downstairs tobe with the children for a while.Linda teaches visual art and is basedin Goderich. Karen is an artist andteacher. After several years they formedWorth Their Salt. They went toGoderich Place with an idea to putwomen’s history in fabric. The storydress was created. Many womenfrom the Goderich area took part andcreated their stories by featuring them on the dress. Each person wasgiven a piece of the dress to tell theirstory of their life. Some were theCeltic way of life, one made a storyout of her father’s ties, one had usedpictures of a wedding dress that hadbeen worn by different members ofher family. The pieces were embroidered, patch worked, etc.
This project took from February to
May to accomplish.
The dress is at the Blyth Public
Library for a couple of weeks. The
hymn, In Suffering Love was
followed by the offering, hymn, The
Fruit of All Creation and the
offertory prayer.
The choir favoured the
congregation with an anthem, Like a
River Glorious. The Prayers of the
Community were followed by the
singing of the Lord’s Prayer.

FROM BLYTH
Terry Fox Run
The Terry Fox Run was in full swing last Friday with all five
area schools participating. Blyth Public School students
Simon McCutcheon, left, and Quaid Kerr were members of
the younger group who ran with a piece of paper, awaiting a
new stamp every lap they completed. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
The Blyth Festival Art Gallery is
looking for local art talent. Each
year the Gallery presents five shows
during their exhibition season, from
early May to mid-September. The
first is a student art show, featuring
the work of high school students
from the Avon-Maitland and Huron-
Perth County Boards of Education,
followed by an open, non-juried
community show where any artist
can display work.
These are followed by three
individual or collaborative
exhibitions of professional calibre
artists, usually three weeks in length.
The Gallery wants to include as
many local artists as possible in
these shows and is mounting a
special effort to reach the best
creative talents in the region. The
presentations could be by artists in
any media in the visual arts fields.
The selection committee will meet
Nov. 15 to choose artists for the
2009 and 2010 seasons and will
need to have artists’ submissions in
hand by that time. Proposals are
welcome in hard-copy format (typed
pages and photos) or digitally.
