The Citizen, 2008-09-25, Page 12Six members of the WalkerburnClub met at the home of BettyArchambault on Sept. 15.Deanna Snell opened the meetingwith two readings, Remembering theOld Barns and Mothers WhoDrugged Us, followed with prayer.
Betty Archambault read the
minutes and the correspondence.
Thank yous were received from
Ball’s Cemetery and Hope Chapel
Cemetery, for donations from the
club, and from the Archambaults for
serving lunch at their 60th
anniversary.
The roll call was answered with
each member sharing somethingthey had done this summer. Each member donated $10 to theclub, instead of having a bake sale atthe Thresher Reunion. Due were alsopaid.Ila Cunningham gave the
treasurer’s report. It was decided to
donate to the Clinton, Goderich and
Wingham hospitals for the telethon.
A discussion was held regarding
the two quilts that are nearly
completed. Instead of donating one
to the Breast Cancer sale in
Stratford, as has been done for the
last 10 years, the hope is to donate it
to the cancer unit at Winghamhospital as a fundraiser forsomething to help the patients in theunit. The Walkerburn Club is alsoplanning to donate the puff quilt, made from squares of fabric donated
by the members, to the Salvation
Army, hoping they will find a needy
home for it.
The Club is now working on a
crazy quilt from donated material
and blocks are being worked on at
home.
Dorothy Schneider had an
interesting program. She read tidbits
from the book Windings whichdiscussed the history of the MaitlandRiver. Did you know that it is 10miles as the crow flies from Auburnto Goderich, but if you follow theriver it is 30 miles? She also had a contest on numbers.
Betty served lunch which was pies
supplied by Bernice Norman who
was unable to attend the meeting.
After a social half hour, all departed
for home.
Due to Thanksgiving, the next
meeting will be held one week later
than usual, on Oct. 20 at the home of
Deanna Snell.

On Sept. 5, Seaforth Fall Fair was
the place where the North and South
Huron County 4-H Sheep Clubs
meet for their joint achievement day.
Members unloaded their lambs,
gave them a final check-over to
make sure they were ready to show
and the day began.
Sheep judge for the day was Doug
Kennedy a retired sheep shearer and
school teacher.
The lambs were weighed to see
which category they would be in.
The breeding ewe class was first
and the top three ewes were shown
by Laura Higgins, Sarah VanWyk
and Bailey VanDorp.
The heavy market lambs class
results were Amber Brodie, Joel
Brodie and Margaret Vincent. The
light lambs class results were Jessie
Walton, Kayla Bishop and Kabrina
Bishop.
Champion market lamb was
awarded to Amber Brodie and Jessie
Walton earned Reserve Champion.
Once all the confirmation classes
were over, it was time to have the
showmanship classes.
The top PeeWee showpersons
were Bailey VanDorp and Leanna
VanWyk. The top three novice or
first-time showmanship were Roy
VanBrugge, Emma Enders and
Jessie Walton. The junior
showmanship results were Laura
Higgins and Adam Henderson.
Intermediate showmanship results
were Kabrina Bishop, Will Fleming
and Amber Brodie. Senior
showmanship results were Margaret
Vincent and Emily Moore.
Kabrina Bishop was the champion
showperson and went on to the 4-H
sweepstakes to show against the
other 4-H clubs showman. Laura
Higgins was reserve showperson of
the sheep show.
The 4-H members also had to
show a wool fleece at the fair. There
was a variety of classes and shearer
Josh Bruton was the judge. The
medium wool winners were Emily
Moore, Kabrina Bishop and Janette
Plaetzer. The long wool winners
were Elliot Miller and Laura
Higgins. The lamb class wool
winners were Leanna VanWyk,
Sarah VanWyk and Zach Drost.
All 4-H members were given a
meal ticket and $7 for entering in the
fair. A test was written by all
members based on their knowledge
about this club. Members then had
the opportunity to look around at the
fair before loading up their sheep
and heading home.

Congratulations to John Feeney,
Tina Ramsey and Joel on the birth of
their daughter and sister Cassie.
Apologies to the Charrons as their
name was spelled incorrectly last
week.
Lloyd and Vera Penfound have
returned home from a three-week
vacation to Stettler, Alberta. They
went through Canada and visited at
the home of Lloyd’s brother and wife,
Mervyn and Marilyn. While there, the
four of them toured the Rocky
Mountains, and spent some time at
Spruce Meadows. They also visited
their niece, her husband and children
on the farm. On the way home they
spent a day at Yellowstone Park and
came home through the U.S. It was a
very enjoyable trip.
Knox United Church had a joint
worship service with Londesborough
United at Ball’s Church on Sept. 21.
Huron Chapel’s scripture was
Amos 6: 1-6. Pastor Dave Wood
preached saying God can give people
peace and rest. He also said that
people should not become lazy and
apathetic in their faith commitment to
God.
The church has started a video
series on Israel during their evening
services.
