THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 2008. PAGE 23. On a late summer day in 1958, theformer Rita Graf of Chepstow andLeo Deitner of RR1, Ethel wereunited in marriage. The Sept. 6 ceremony was held atMary Immaculate Church,Chepstow. The bride was the
daughter of Alex and Clara Graf and
the groom was the son of Jim and
Cecelia Deitner. Father Gillen and
Father Durand performed the
ceremony.
Attendants were Mary (Graf)
Taziar, Kathleen (Deitner)
McFadden, Gerry Ryan and Harold
Walter.
The Deitners honeymooned in the
Parry Sound-Bala area before
returning to the groom’s home farm
to begin married life. Rita, a nurse-
x-ray technician joined her new
husband in the family business
becoming a ‘farmerette’.
The Deitners had three children,
Brian, now married to Jan and
residing in Brussels, Cathy, married
to Jean Marc Beneteau of Belle
River and Kevin, married to Alicia,
who resides on the old home farm. The family has grown to includeeight grandchildren: Julie, Paul andMarc Beneteau, Kiley and TristaDeitner and Tyler, Morgan andTiffany Deitner. Having moved off the home farm
a few years ago, the Deitners
consider themselves to be “sort of”
retired. They are still involved with
farming and volunteering. Besides
being busy each spring handling
sales from her one-acre asparagus
garden, Rita enjoys gardening and
crafts.
Leo loves woodworking and
makes axe and hammer handles.
The golden anniversary for this
couple was marked by family and
friends at an open house at Brussels
Legion on Saturday afternoon. A
supper followed.
Family travelling for the occasion
attended from Belle River, New
Hamburg, Hamilton, Brantford and
St. Marys.

She recalls how wonderful it was
when Hullett got their own
kindergarten room. It had been
necessary for a time for the smallest
pupils to share a room with the
Grade 3 children. Kindergarteners
struggled with sinks and water
fountains being too high.
Watching the children learning
and growing always made me feel
excited about how they were
changing and improving, says Mrs.
Kemp.
With a new year beginning, Mrs.
Kemp feels different knowing she
does not have to go during a good
part of August and prepare for her
class.
Leaving, she will miss the
children, staff and parents. She
always felt there was something
special about Hullett and that was
why she stayed here so long. She
never wanted to leave.
But every teacher has to retire at
some point and although Mrs. Kemp
will miss Hullett dearly, she is very
excited about all her retirement
plans. She is planning to head west
to Victoria to visit relatives, travel
lots more, read some good books, do
more gardening and perhaps some
supply teaching.
I know all of Hullett is looking
forward to seeing her again when
she supply teaches at the school. But
until then, we all wish you good luck
and we will miss you.”
