Over and above
There was high-flying action at Auburn Hills this past weekend as motocross enthusiasts
competed. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
The Walton Women’s Institute met
at the home of Marjory Humphries
last Wednesday afternoon. There
were five Institute members present.
The guest speaker of the day was
Peggy Humphries, Marjory’s
daughter, who spoke about her job in
St. Agatha. She is involved in a
program called Child Link and is also
a manager of group home. She gave
very interesting presentation.
Here visiting in Ontario for a few
weeks were Gerald and Joan Miller.
Their home is now in Clairsholm,
Alberta. They really love it there.
They are spending time with son
Rob, here in Brussels area and with
their daughter Donna in Exeter.
Catching up with how fast the
grandchildren grow and taking in
special events in the area is keeping
them busy and I was lucky to have a
chance to visit with Joan. Nice to see
you again.
Get-well wishes to Brian Keyes,
who has undergone surgery last week
and to Joan Stephenson who has
broken her foot/ankle.
Returning from a two-week
vacation in British Columbia is Hank
TenPas. He was out to visit daughter
Linda, her husband Peter and boys
Kirk and Nicolas who live in Hope
which is two hours or so from
Vancouver.
A highlight of Hank’s trip was the
trip to Victoria on the ferry to attendthe two-day dragon boat racing event.Linda is a member of a team whichsucceeded in winning a bronze medalin the event. There were 80 teamsfrom across Canada and the UnitedStates. The race is a huge fundraisingevent for cancer held in the innerharbour of Victoria across from theParliament buildings. Hank reports itwas really something.
Linda also put Dad to work with
some odd jobs that needed done and
some painting.
Hank enjoyed spending time with
the grandsons and taking in the
beautiful scenery of the area. From
Linda’s home, he could see the snow
on Mount Hope. There are plenty of
carvings and totem poles around the
town and area and Hank enjoyed
touring the area. Both Linda and
Peter work for Corrections Canada.
Hank reports nice weather and a
little rain. It’s always nice to come
home. Though maybe not quite as
much this time with the road under
construction and disruptions in the
water supply at times. We all know
things have to be worse before they
can get better. Welcome back Hank.
The Labour Day weekend seems to
mean the end of summer and it’s back
to school. The summer seemed to just
fly by, but I’m told that’s a sign of
age. It also means that when time
flies we are supposed to be having
fun, and then there’s the saying that
time waits for no man.
No matter what, it means back to
school, back to driving the bus, fall
fair, plowing match, Thresher’s
Reunion, back into routines of music
lessons, dancing lessons, hockey
practice, meetings, and before you
know it, we’ve had so much fun, it’s
time for Christmas again.
Now is the time!
