The Citizen, 2008-08-14, Page 15THE CITIZEN. THURSDAY, AUGUST 14, 2008. PAGE 15.Continued from page 10A couple of weeks ago, those able toattend gathered at Obere’s restaurantto enjoy a meal and an afternoon ofreminiscing and catching up witheach other’s lives. There were 14graduates able to attend this 59thanniversary of their graduation.
Edna reports that it was wonderful
to be able to see the girls she trained
with and looks forward to their next
gathering.
Edna’s daughter Janet and friend
Ben from Owen Sound took Edna to
London for the day, then were able
to have dinner out with Edna and a
visit before returning home to
Brussels.
The Armstrong were off for their
annual adventure to Oshkosh,
Wisconsin. Jim, Leona and Robert
Armstrong headed west in the
camper bus for a week of both work
and play. They attend the
Experimental Aircraft Association
“convention” and are volunteers for
the sign-in and registration of the
event.
There are acres and acres of
campsites and airplanes and
hundreds of airplane enthusiasts in
attendance. There are about 500
workshops to attend and there is an
amphitheatre where nightly
entertainment is held.
Leona reports a wonderful week
and wonderful weather but it’s nice
to be home.
Indiana was the destination for
two local couples on their
motorcycles. Don and Pat Nolan
and Gerry and Anne Ryan headed
for Shipshawana, Indiana for a few
days. They left on Wednesday and
spent their first night in Michigan.
The next day they arrived inShipshawana. It is an Amishsettlement with lots of interestingtourist sites to see. They spent theday sightseeing and the night therebefore heading back for a stop inFrankenmuth, Michigan the nextday. The German-style town boasts
the world’s largest Christmas store
Bronners.
They admit to purchasing a few
very small items, but obviously
riding the motorcycles gives very
little trunk space to bring much
home.
They had wonderful weather and
only hit rain on the ride home on
Saturday from Grand Bend on.
Returning from an annual
adventure are Judy Emmrich and
John and Ruth Uyl and family. They
participate in a week’s trail ride with
the Chesley Saddle Club at an area
north of Wiarton. There were nearly
70 riders and horses taking daily trail
rides through the area. There was
beautiful scenery including a
spectacular view of Hope’s Bay.
They were very lucky and had great
weather for the five days away.
Enjoying a weekend away were
Jim and Linda McDonald. They
were in Toronto and were joined by
Jim’s brother Bruce and Linda. They
went to see We Will Rock You, the
musical which features the music of
Queen at the theatre. They report it
was fantastic.
They also took in a tour of
Chinatown and the historic
Casaloma. The McDonalds lucked
out and saw the Blue Jays defeat
Atlanta.
Patty Banks surprised her
granddaughters with a horseback
riding afternoon. It was to celebrateTyler’s 10th birthday. They went toHugo Bontrop’s Home on the Rangeriding farm near Londesborough forthe perfect day of riding. Patty, Tylerand Brooke enjoyed the day andBrooke was very excited to be ableto ride all by herself.
Judy Emmrich was surprised to
learn her horse D.J. had a beautiful
new filly before she left for her
week’s trail ride. They have named
the new girl Surprise.
We have a few folks out there
