Lindsay would throw two strikeouts before giving up seven runs on three singles, two walks, one triple and a homerun. Kirkton continued their offensive adding three runs in the second, two in the third and another seven in the fourth. For Brussels Jeremy Ross batted two for three with two singles. Marissa Pipe also singled. The final score was Brussels 2, Kirkton 19. Brussels then travelled to Monkton to play Atwood on July 24. Nathan Watson singled in the first and scored on a single by Ross. Lindsay again pitched for Brussels. He gave up seven runs on one single, three doubles, two triples and a walk. Atwood added another run in the second to take a big lead. Brussels never gave up and the bats came alive in the fourth to close the gap. Singles came from Lindsay and Rachel Cousins. Ross stroked a double and then Cousins hit a triple to score six. Brussels continued to shut down the Atwood offence with a strike out by Lindsay, offence from Pipe and a fly out to Adam Cousins. Brussels scored seven on hits by Lindsay, Adam Cousins, Ross, Rachel Cousins and Morgan Dietner. Atwood had their final at bat. They scored two with a lead-off single and a triple. Brussels held it together to get their first out on a fielder’s choice followed by two flyouts to Lindsay. The final score was Brussels 13, Atwood 10. Brussels was on the road last week travelling to Fullarton and Kirkton. The year-end tournament will be played in Benmiller Aug. 15 and 16. Making contact It was a contest between neighbours as Blyth Mites hosted Belgrave on Aug. 4. The locals won 16-10. (Vicky Bremner photo) Seaforth Minor Hockey is holding its second annual Kick Off Bash later this month and will feature a host of talent, including some familiar faces. Justin Peters of the Albany River Rats and Anthony Peters of the Kingston Frontenacs, both of Blyth, will be participating in the game, among other stars and ex-NHLers. The celebrity contest will take place on Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. at the Seaforth and District Community Centre and tickets will be available at the door. Team Devereaux, anchored by ex- Toronto Maple Leaf Boyd Devereaux will take on Team Wildfong, led by Dan Wildfong of the Texas Brahmas. The game will be preceded by a barbecue, starting at 5 p.m. and running until 6:30 p.m. and there will be a meet and greet with the players and a silent auction featuring player equipment after the game. Other players confirmed for the event are Andy MacDonald, formerly of the St. Louis Blues, Cal O’Reilly of the Milwaukee Admirals, Ryan O’Reilly of Team Canada and the Erie Otters, Mark Bell who spent time with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Derek Nesbitt who recently signed with the Phoenix Coyotes and Joey Hishon of the Owen Sound Attack. It was hosted by Viola Adams, Allan Edgar, Neil and Edna. Share the wealth was won by Leona McDonald and Raymond Kingsley. Travelling lone-hand winner was Helen Dobson. Other winners were: high lady, Myrna Burnett; low lady, Shirley Verstoep lone hands, Margaret Peebles; high man, Raymond Kingsley; low man, Murray Hoover; lone hands, Stewart Steiss. There was also a prize for anyone who got skunked and the lucky winners were Shirley Verstoep and Neil Hatt.
